“A truly friendly place in an unbeatable location”
Reviewed November 1, 2012

I satyed at the White Pearl in Girne for four nights this last August. The room was nice and comfortable, with an excellent view of the harbor. Staff -Haluk, Johnny and their colleagues- were extremely friendly and went out of their way to help me in anything I might need. It was the true feeling of home away from home.

Room Tip: Make sure you get one of the rooms with a harbor view.

Stayed here for two nights on a long weekend in Kyrenia. Simple but spotlessly clean and friendly, helpful staff. There are fantastic views and it is close to all the nightlife but not too noisy when we were there. The rooftop bar is great for a night-cap.

We stayed at This pearl for 13 nights during Sept/Oct 2011. We know and love Kyrenia but this was our first stay at The pearl and it was great. The room was always kept spotlessly clean, the linen and towels always fresh. Breakfast was freshly prepared and plentifull. The view from our room was magnificent and we spent many hours on the balcony people watching. The manager and staff were a pleasure and always prepared to help in any way. We will be returning.

Room Tip: Try for a room on the second floor facing the harbour.

We stayed at the hotel for 5 nights. It has a lovely location and we had a room at the side with a balcony, with views over the harbour, which was really nice to enjoy late afternoon/early evening. The staff are always friendly and helpful, and the breakfast offered is more than you could want. Having the roof top bar is great for a drink later on in the evening, just before you retire. The only criticism is that there could be a little bit of noise at night but once we got used to the Mediterranean buzz it wasn't a problem. We would certainly recommend the hotel.

We did not stay in the hotel but were attracted to this hotel from the opposite side of the harbor in Kyrenia, Northern Cyprus. We decided to check out the roof bar during the day to see if it was worth the visit. It was. This has been open now for 7 weeks and is serving fantastic, freshly cooked curries with all the trimmings. All drinks reasonable priced and they do have a great cocktail list, again reasonably priced. The chef and owner Ruby (Rube) studied with his family and around the Punjab, we booked in for a Curry to see the night view of the harbor. The view, the food, the service were fantastic. Def worth a visit!!

We were planning to stay just a couple of nights, but extended our stay to 6 as we were enjoying Kyrenia so much. The hotel is in the most fantastic location, right on the harbourside, overlooking all the activity that goes on there. it has a wonderful view of the castle too. We had a very nice front facing room, with balcony which was great for people watching. The restaurants opposite were open quite late, but the local musicians just added to the atmosphereThe roof top bar also has great views and service. The staff were always friendly and helpful. The only criticism was that the shower flooded the bathroom every time it was used.
We are already planning to go back next year.

Room Tip: the rooms at the front have wonderful views

We knew this hotel well, having stayed there several times in the past while it was the 'Ergeneken' so we knew it was basic but, having changed hands and been renovated six years ago, we expected it to be ok. We booked last year, as we knew which room we wanted (top floor, balcony overlooking the harbour) and made it a condition of the booking that this was confirmed. The manager did confirm the room to my UK travel agent and to their local agent in North Cyprus. Just to be certain, I e-mailed him personally and he confirmed the booking to me.
But - you've guessed it! when we arrived, at 10.30 at night, the room we had booked 'wasn't available'. The receptionist - whose English wasn't of the best - had been left alone to sort it out and claimed that we should have confirmed that we were coming two weeks earlier - this was the first we had heard of any further confirmation being necessary!
He finally got the manager on the phone - who told us that we could either accept an alternative room at the back of the hotel for two nights and then move to our balcony room or find another hotel. As if we were going to do that at 11.00 pm!!
We had little alternative - but expected to see the manager the next morning to sort things out. However, despite the local agent also having tried to contact him, he didn't appear until the Wednesday morning - the day our room was being changed and, as far as he was concerned, it was everybody's fault but his! He claimed that he had no written confirmation of our booking from the travel agent. He claimed that he had only heard that we were coming on the morning of the day we arrived. He claimed that his computers had crashed so he'd lost all the data from last year. He claimed not to have received any payment for the room from the agent.
He did offer us a 'free night' but only if we extended our stay - impossible as flights home were booked! and we did get a complimentary Brandy Sour from the Roof Bar - but having booked and confirmed a particular room for a week it was disappointing only to have it for five nights!
The view from the balcony was everything we remembered! The best view in North Cyprus - or possibly the world of Kyrenia's exquisite horseshoe harbour!
However, the 'renovated' shower room was grubby with mould and the shower temperature fluctuated madly. Breakfast was interesting! The 'boiled' eggs were not boiled in water but cooked in some kind of microwave - so they came either virtually raw and sloppy or hard boiled enough to use as billiard balls! There was unlimited hot toast though, with cold meats, cheeses, jam and honey; orange juice and tea or 'Nescafe' to drink. (You can get wonderful cappuccino from the cafes in the square!)
The beds were ok - if you like sheets and a blanket - but the linen was clean and the room regularly serviced. Weekend nights especially can get noisy as the cafe opposite the hotel seems to be the one that stays open the latest! If you can't sleep you can always go down and join them!
You don't stay here for luxury - but you do for the view. A pity we only got it for part of the time despite booking in October and making it a condition of the reservation!! Once you get there you can't do very much if they don't honour their promise!
I would only recommend the hotel for its incredible view and the understanding that you might not get what you thought you'd paid for!

Room Tip: Request top floor balcony with harbour view
