Attraction details
Owner description: Visible from far and wide yet so close you could almost touch it, the emblem of Liechtenstein towers over Vaduz on a rock terrace which can be reached along a romantic footpath. The castle was first built some 700 years ago. Since 1712 it has been in the possession of the Prince of Liechtenstein. Furthermore, since 1938 it has been the residence of the prince’s family, so it is not open to the public. The 12th century keep and the structures on the east side are the oldest parts of the castle.

“Castle asa castle.. nothing special...”
Reviewed August 18, 2013

Vaduz was our fourth destination of Euro-trip on first week on June. We arrived late evening and there wasnt any people on vaduz streets. We went for short walk around Vaduz and one Police car was all the following us. You can visit Liechtenstein just passing by.

“Beautiful view but can't get inside”
Reviewed August 17, 2013

I found Vaduz Castle to be quite interesting from outside! A big medieval castle made of stone with small windows...I wonder if it is comfortable for Prince to be still living there! I took nice pictures near the Castle and the view is beautiful! View in general is beautiful from anywhere in Liechtenstein! You can't get inside though, so it took us around 10 minutes to spend near the castle.

“great views”
Reviewed July 30, 2013

After a short walk you arrive at the castle. Since it is occupied there is absolutely no access. The views are worth a few pictures but that's all there is to it really.

“The castle would be perfect if . . .”
Reviewed July 26, 2013

You could just get in a prowl around. I know that the ruling family lives there, but what western young boy or girl isn't drawn to a castle? The walk up from the center of town was very nice, although not easy. Rest stops along the way provide nice picture taking opportunity and a chance to rest one's legs. The castle itself is well-restored based on the history of the building and is quite pretty. It also offers a great backdrop for a picture before walking down. Other than that, Schattenburg in Feldkirch is the place to go to walk through history.

“Views and walks”
Reviewed June 27, 2013

It is difficult to review a castle you can't actually go inside. It looks picturesque from a distance, takes about 10 minutes to walk from the Town Hall area up to the lookout and then the castle is just above. There are walking and cycling trails (all signposted) in the surrounding area and it is worth going up for the views. I arrived to find a uniformed band bearing instruments and gifts waiting to enter the castle which added a little more interest. A must do if you are in Vaduz for any length of time but there's nothing really to it.
