Attraction details
Owner description: Visible from far and wide yet so close you could almost touch it, the emblem of Liechtenstein towers over Vaduz on a rock terrace which can be reached along a romantic footpath. The castle was first built some 700 years ago. Since 1712 it has been in the possession of the Prince of Liechtenstein. Furthermore, since 1938 it has been the residence of the prince’s family, so it is not open to the public. The 12th century keep and the structures on the east side are the oldest parts of the castle.

You know what, we managed to see the Prince and the Queen...what a site to spot and we were so lucky...Check my photos, you can see the car coming from the castle...
Its a long walk from the Centre but it may be worth and you may be lucky.
You cannot go inside all you can do is stare the castle and enjoy the pics.

Liechtenstein is somewhat like a fairy tale principality and the photogenic castle draws the attention. Unfortunately it is off limits to the tourists. It is still the active residence of the Prince and his family. There are numerous angles from which you can take pictures of the castle to preserve your Lichtenstein memories.

Traveling from Italy to Germany we found the Liechtenstein. I liked to see Vaduz... I thought it was a pretty town. There are not many road tourist signs... was difficult to find something. Finally arrived in front of the Castle we dicovered was closed... I expected something soo much better for the richest and smallest european country!

Nice walk up to the Castle, where the exterior can be viewed up close, although it's true that the castle is closed to the public, it's still wor the visit. I didn'nt have any expectations and was rewarded with a beautiful view of the city (village?) below, as well as being thoroughly impressed with the exterior of the castle.

Impressive battlements over the town of Vaduz and an easy walk up from the main street, the castle is not generally open to the public so it is really "only" one more castle, just the dominant one in this small country.
