I've ate here a couple of times and always come out of the restaurant disappointed, the location is great, the bar has a good atmosphere, but the food is really not good and there are a number of dishes you can tell have been taken out of the freezer and thrown in the deep fat fryer. We also had three rounds of piso sours, all tasting very different from each other - which didn't help to wash down the poor quality dishes. If they used fresh ingredients, put a little more care into cooking and being more consistent with their cocktails then this could be a great spot for tapas as there is nowhere else in the centre of town that does tapas. This time I will not be returning.

It is nice to have a drink in the small terrace just in front of the door. There are nice cocktails. However, I would not recommend it for dinner, "tapas" are very small and expensive as well. It is not a Spanish restaurant.

Confused by recent reviews; we went last week and had excellent food & service. Did not expect Michelin standards or even perhaps totaly authentic fare but we enjoyed really good Tex Mex. Maybe that's not what El C is trying for but we had no regrets!

I often come here to have some drinks with friends, dance and have fun. Despite the cocktails are expensive at least they are good =)

I came here to eat 3 times, we asked the assiete of tapas and they are not tapas. It is frozen food, deep fried.

The location is pretty good, just in the back of the Palace and the decoration is also charming. For dancing the music is good but it is small so gets crowded easily. Pleas open downstairs so people who like dancing actually can!

Even though the location and ambiance are nice, the food leaves a lot to be desired, as does the service. We arrived at 9 p.m and at 10.40 p.m. we were still waiting for our main course, after a minuscule portion of marinated octopus served as a starter. Three of us had chosen the mixed grill, and the fourth a selection of empanadas. Why it took so long to prepare is inexplicable. The mixed grill consisted of, per person: one merguez sausage, cold inside and lukewarm outside (it had barely been defrosted); a dry piece of chicken, the tiniest undercooked lamb chop (the size of a postage stamp), a tasteless cut of beef and an unpleasant, very gamey bit of kangaroo, all served with two cold sauces, one of which was ketchup. The chips which accompanied the meat were limp, flabby and greasy. As for the empanadas, this was a collection of totally inedible deep-fried pastries and cheese croquettes. This restaurant is an example of how South American food should not be done and it's a shame that El Compañero might put diners off South American cuisine by serving this terrible stuff of dubious origin and quality.
There is a huge mark-up on the wines, too, which are overpriced, just like the food, but at least quaffable.
I almost forgot to add that a cracked wine glass with content was sent back and replaced without content, and a dirt-encrusted plate also had to be returned.
Stop at El Compañero for a mojito or a caipirinha, on your way to another restaurant!
