Ok where to start – as an international visitor to a place like Luxembourg you really need and rely on the assistance from your hotel staff

Luxembourg has a unique approach to tourism – they don’t really need it, they have a strong economy and do not in our opinion encourage travellers other than those for business of course as this is primarily a commercial centre/hub

What this means is that locals will be rude to you, shop keepers will look you up and down and judge whether or not you are worthy of their time, it is not important to the people of LUX whether you have a good time or not and they certainly do not want to get involved – this is not a place for hospitality, we do not speak French or German either and as other reviewers mention this is a difficulty because unlike many other places in the world the locals will not stop for you to help if you need it, we encountered this attitude especially in shops and restaurants, petrol stations, even the railway station

So your choice of accommodation is important, rather than stay in a generic hotel we chose this hotel because if offered a unique location and property

The location is excellent could not be better you can access public transport if you need it bus and train we walked to both its not far and a pleasure to enjoy the city, so much within walking distance to fill days of your time, the building itself is wonderful full of character and is just how it looks in the picture, it really is part of the old town and feels special – this is where the review changes

To summarise- we arrived, no welcome, no assistance with luggage, a terse nod of the head, no information about the property or breakfast, no acknowledgement of our special occasion- very bad attitude here, not a people person – absolutely devastating start

OK about the noise, there is not a little noise, this is the story- in summer LUX people get outside and enjoy every single moment after long cold winters when they are boxed up inside – so for you dear visitor this means that as the hotel is surrounded on 3 sides by all night bars and restaurants

You will hear all the partying EVERY NIGHT ALL NIGHT NO EXAGERRATION we had a room at the back of the hotel supposably quiet- not so this faces into a museum with an outdoor café at the front- the noise is relentless, people vomiting, fighting and punching each other , smashing glass I kid you not, every night of the week we got two night sleep out of pure exhaustion

This is a deciding factor for you who have not yet stayed- we had read the reviews on this issue and took earplugs- ITS NOT ENOUGH ITS REALLY TERRIBLE so if you think that you can live with this, consider if its summer there is no aircon so you will need to have the windows open which is lovely but the noise, we could not believe it as it bounces off the buildings and echoes – your choice you have been warned

LUX people drink and smoke all night and if you thought you might be able to sleep in in the morning think again

This is when the council, rubbish and delivery guys start before 6am to tidy up the place as the hotel is located across from the palace and things have to look clean and tidy for that reason so again every single morning it is deafening – again you will not believe the routine- no peace

And we are not light sleepers especially we live in a city and are used to city noises- this is amplified

Eating in LUX will be another challenge to you- there is no cheap, good value or well priced healthy options in this city

Even the supermarkets do not offer a range of items, put it this way if McDonalds and pizza hut are 4-8 times more than they would cost at home you know that eating at restaurants will be expensive, they are obsessed with Italian food and rich creamy food

The breads are nice – start saving now

Rooms as I mentioned have no aircon, you may need a fan the duvet must be equivalent to several blankets- no second sheet way too hot

There is no bar fridge, no tea and coffee facilities { wait until you see the price if you are dying for a cup of tea}only a couple of English channels on tv for when you would like to relax, the rooms have no clock and are severely under furnished, spacious yes not luxurious simple, no furniture for 2 people to sit together , all the chairs are hard backed and uncomfortable, no shower curtain the entire bathroom gets covered in water every time you have a shower- this is a safety issue, a nuisance and impractical, we had to ask for our sheets to be changed, no compendium but there is tourist info at reception

Poor quality for a 5 star property, disappointing

Then there’s breakfast- the breakfast area also serves as a bar, lunch and dinner etc it’s dirty, we watched the dirt build up over our stay there must be rats somewhere, the floor was really bad in particular

None of the wait staff speak English, the omelettes were good, fresh pastries, and freshly squeezed orange juice terrific

Overall its location is the selling point, choose your time of year to avoid the worst of the noise and get breakfast included because there is nowhere else you can get it except for rip-off cafes and bring your patience with you

If you want to experience the city of Luxembourg, this is the hotel to do it. It's in the heart of the city, and you can walk to pretty much anything. (the elevator to The Grund is right around the corner) The breakfast they provide is good (eggs, yogurt, variety of breads, etc.). We asked for the room with the bed in the loft which was cool. The hotel is a bit noisy, so if that bothers you - beware. The only issue we had is that some of the staff did not have strong English skills, so make sure you have knowledge of French or something may get lost in translation. Finally, we paid to take a shuttle to their Chateau de Schengen property in southern Luxembourg for a wine tasting. Great day trip.

In summary, stayed here as part of mini-break, found the hotel to be excellent for a romantic, mini-break.

We had a lovely room, which was a mini-suit (lounge, bedroom, and bathroom). Room was very tastefully decorated and made use of the historic features of the building in the design. The hotel is very centrally located in the old town and all the attractions of Luxembourg old town are immediately around the hotel.

When we arrived we were greeted by a very friendly and helpful member of staff on reception, who kindly made reservations for us for dinner at a nearby restaurant (and actually took us over there in the evening).

There was WiFi in the room which is complimentary (and a laptop in case you didn't have hardware). The room was super clean and contained all the essentials.

We ate in the restaurant for breakfast which was very nice, offering a good buffet options and selection of hot options to order.

Stayed here a few days ago on business. Came into town for a meeting on a Monday but got in on Saturday to have a bit of time to get over the jet lag. Alan (Alain?) who manages the hotel in the afternoons and evenings was terrific. He oriented me to the hotel and the surrounding area and continually gave me directions and recommendations for things to check out and even how to walk to my meeting down the hill. My room was a loft of sorts with sparse but attractive decoration and a personal wifi transmitter (every room has their own). The bathroom was modern and nice. The location, however, is the biggest plus. There are plenty of things to see and do in a half an hour walking distance, the area is extremely clean and secure, and you are literally steps away from some of the coolest sights of the center of town. The bistro was also quaint and tasty. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: I liked my room, number 23. I didn't see any others and couldn't think of a particular reason why one would be better than another.

Stayed here bank holiday weekend for a relaxing weekend.

Location of the hotel is great, less than a 5 minute walk from the 3 main town squares inside the old town and even closer to the "Casemates".

The room was a good size, it was a lot more modern than I expected and although it was a suite the "lounge" room wasn't really very functional (just a large room with 1 small arm chair and a tv and a side table). However, still nice and bright. I imagine more useful if they are putting in extra beds. The room also included a laptop that could be used which is always useful. There was no safe in the room.

The bedroom was a good size, as was the bathroom. Nothing that special but nice and bright and clean.

Only two minor complaints for our stay really. On the Saturday night the room was very noisy until about 4.30am due to the bars outside which meant I couldn't sleep (although the boyfriend slept through it all!) and secondly when we asked staff where we could find a supermarket or bakery for breakfast we were greeted with a very shocked reply that they served breakfast at the hotel (although this isn't included in the price) so still no wiser on that front.

All in all though a good little hotel and not bad value. The chocolate on the bed when we arrived was very yummy!
