Youth Hostel Luxembourg City
Reviewed January 14, 2013

A solid hostel. Probably the only option in Luxembourg for budget accommodation.
On a good location, only 10-15 minutes walk to the city centre. Maybe it feels a little too "clinical" (I had a feeling I walked into a hospital). The reception staff was really helpful, but I found the restaurant staff unfriendly. The room was clean and nice. There were lockers in the room, unfortunately without a padlock, so you had to bring your own, or get one at reception by leaving a deposit, which is refunded when you return it. The breakfast was average, al-right but nothing special. If you are not a member of Hostelling International, you must pay for their "stamp of approval", which is around 2€ per night. Facilities were all very clean. The Wi-Fi is free, but you don't get the signal in the rooms (only at the reception and in the corridor). There is a common room with a pool table, TV, mini library and 2 computers. This was a big minus for me, for when you're playing pool you feel uncomfortable, because the people who are reading are giving you the looks (I received my fair share) because of the noise you're making while playing. Like it's my fault they put all the things, which don't mix, in one room.

This hostel is huge. Very clean and staff really friendly. Cheap because Luxembourg is an expensive city - and the breakfast is amazing. It's located near the old city, I strongly recommend it to my friends - even those who aren't backpacking in a budget, since they have such amazing installations. Luxembourg at night is charming, so it's worth it spending at least a night there. I was not during high season, so I was lucky to stay alone at my dorm.

We travelled with a group of friends, including my father aged 70 and stayed here for 2 nights.

We have stayed in hostels before and would but this right up there with those we've stayed at before with the Wombats chain, the top rated in the world.

Check in was very smooth and easy and although we'd paid for the beds online, we has an additional €1 per person per night to pay for have a room which had both a shower and a toilet - small price to pay for these comforts. All the staff were excellent here and a credit to themselves.

The rooms a small but functional, with the bunk beds being sturdy and the mattress being comfortable - some people might feel annoyed about having to make up your bed but this ensures the cleanliness of the accommodation is maintained.

Decent breakfast and bar area with free Wi-Fi in this area - breakfast was fresh and plentiful with the usual offerings of a continental breakfast.

Location is down a hill but not impossible to walk back up the path either - we got the number 9 bus from the train station to it.

Overall would we stay again if ever back in Luxembourg - that would be a yes and would recommend anyone travelling to Luxembourg to consider staying here, as did numerous business travellers

Room Tip: If you have a specific need, email the hostel to enquire and I'm sure they will be able to accom...

I travelled to Luxembourg for a football match. I booked late, my fault, and the remaining hotel rooms were hundreds of pounds a night, so decided to give the Hostel a go.

I arrived late, no problems, someone was on the reception desk. The room had 6 bunks, a table and chairs, separate shower, toilet and sink. The lockers required a padlock, luckily I had one in my bag, but it looked like they were available to buy, or rent.

The neighbouring Railway Viaduct is insulated so well, you forget it's there.

The place was very clean, and the bed was fairly comfy.
Breakfast was included, and the usual continental meat and cheese combo was there, along with some cereals.

I haven't Youth Hostelled in years, but this was much better than I thought it was going to be.

This is a great property. The location is beautiful at the base of the "casemates", the old walls and fortifications of the city, and under a towering stone train bridge. We stayed here with family and were given three rooms together in one wing. Each room was basic: a table and chairs, 4 small lockers, two bunk beds, wash room and W/C. Although the rooms are spare, they are very clean. There is free WiFi in the lobby, ping pong tables and a children's play-space outside. Seems to be a great social atmosphere-- lots of people in the lobby and restaurant. The hostel has reasonably priced food (even a children's menu). Sheets and comforters are included (pick up clean sheets and return used ones near the reception desk), but bring a towel or be prepared to pay a few Euros for one (plus the deposit, which is returned when you return the towels). You also pay a refundable deposit on the keys, ping pong balls and paddles, etc.
The hostel is reasonable walking distance to the city (uphill; our children did fine). Check your map and directions carefully, as it was challenging to find in a car. They do have a free parking lot.
We thought this was a great location and place for the price.

The design was really modern and staying there was awesome. Although quite far from the central station, it is still accessible by 2 bus lines, the 14 and 9.
I think you don't have much choice in the city of Luxembourg, but you'll not regret choosing this hostel.

Reasonably priced accomodation in the heart of Luxembourg city..? Well, kind of, it's down the hill towards the Grund, but isn't a long walk. And did I say it's downhill.
The hostel is BIG. really big. There's free wifi in the lobby, a bar, restaurant, and a few ping pong tables. The rooms and washrooms are ok, nothing special, and the electronic keycards are hit n miss. mine would work once or twice and then need to be reprogrammed at reception 3 or 4 times a day.. this failure to be able to open doors meant people weren't locking them and doors were being left open, so potential for theft. Another thing. their '10pm quiet time' is more of a guideline, and for the 2 short nights I was there people were falling in at 3am, singing terribly and playing their guitars (guitar skills weren't so bad, but the singing was pure sh*te)
