A previous reviewer suggests this Mercure is 'good but tired'. Yes, it is. However, there are positive facets that may be outweigh the tired dimension. At check-in, Laura kindly allocated me to a large bedroom facing the buildings at the back of the hotel and, therefore, any noise for the station square was avoided. All the staff on Reception were welcoming although this was not quite applicable to staff at breakfast. There are possibilities for improving this side of the experience.
My room on the fifth floor (529) also seemed to retain an interesting olfactory experience. Despite leaving the window wide open, every time I came into the room there was a smell of body odour. The chair in the room had a torn covering which, like the hall carpeting, is the sort of thing that gets noticed and explains why reviewers might call the property 'tired'.
Having said that, the location is good for rail connections and not far from the World Heritage Site elements of the city.
