We hoped to try our the caves gourmand, but arrived too late in the afternoon...they close between 3 and 7 pm each day. We wandered around the plaza and decided to try this place. We expected very little but received excellent Flammenkuchen/tarte flambé, comparable, to our delight, to anything wehad in the home of that dish, the Alsace region of France. The price was right, the food was good and the service was atrocious....as it was in the one other restaurant we tried and departed from because they were stupid slow (Urban... Don't eat there!)

I write a food and travel blog, Thyme, rileymadel(at)blogspot(dot)com where there are lots more photos about our trip to Luxembourg and this restaurant and the food we ordered is included.

We were having a wonderful time between the Saturday Brocante (flea market) and the Farmer's Market which is held right in front of the restaurant. We still wanted to take in the energy of the market but were ready to sit down and have a bite to eat. We usually shy away from what appear to be "tourist trap" restaurants that in prime tourist spots. But we sat down and throughly enjoyed our lunch, lunch spot, and overall experience watching the market flow before us. We had the Tarte Flambée, which was delicious. We sampled some of the regions white wines. I ordered the gnocchi with shaved truffles and enjoyed every creamy pillowy bite. The service was slow and as Americans we love that. In the U.S., you are in and out of a restaurant in record time in order to maximize the day's profit. The staff didn't seem to care how long we sat there so we forced ourselves to camp out, people watch, and throughly enjoy the lunch period. Many more photos on my blog!

Lunchtime. 20 minutes after ordering, wife told no tuna. A further ten minutes later, I was told no tomatoes for my bruschetta. Just gave up. Attitude was atrocious, esp considering my wife was heavily pregnant. They did not care and proceeded to charge for drinks etc. While visitors to Luxembourg may think this is a nice place, I ignored the advice of Luxembourgers that it is overpriced and treats customers like fools. Don't make my mistake.

Although it didn't look like it was set up to serve food, with a small amount of questioning and probing the staff eventually produced a menu for us. Not extensive but high in quality. Mostly local dishes, this was eventually our favourite stop in Luxembourg.
