“Excellent Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 6, 2013

Melia Luxembourg is one of my favorite Hotels. Service is excellent and the rooms have a modern interior with a comfortable bed. Breakfast is delicious. Tip: there is a discount on breakfast if you're a member of the Melia Bonus program.

After our mediocre hotel in Metz, this place was amazing. We had a huge spacious room with a mini fridge. The bed was huge and comfortable, the TV was big and the window was also big and even afforded us a view of the Philharmonic opera house. The best part was the pillow menu, just ring up the front desk and request whichever one you want, someone brought a pillow up to our room immediately...awesome. The bathroom had a bath and a shower and was also very spacious. While we didn't use the sauna, we checked it out, it looked nice and not very crowded (granted we were there in February).

I really liked the location since we walked from the haut ville bus station around the city, down the valley and then up to the hotel, great walk (as long as you don't have too much to carry) and really beautiful views along the way. There are some ruins of an old castle basically right next to the hotel as well as the modern art museum. We didn't have much time while we were there, but the building the art museum is in was cool looking on it's own. Entrance for students to the art museum was 3 €, regular tarif was 6 € I believe. The hotel was about a 20-25 minute walk to the haut ville or grund area and maybe 2-2.5 km from the bus station in the haut ville / downtown area.

We stayed there as a group for one night. The room design is functional, in a contemporary style that comes across in many modern business hotels. Comfortable beds, spacious bathtub shower and good offer for breakfast. Since the city is pretty small, and the distances are manageable – the location is good. Just cross the bridge and the city center is there.

I stayed at this hotel for business and it was a real treat. The room was spacious and the bed was amazing. When one is on business you need a bed that is above par and this hotel understands that. I heard there is a sauna and a gym but I did not sample or see them so I can't comment on them.

There was FREE WI-FI which was a wonderful surprise as it is not always the case in Luxembourg hotels. The breakfast spread broad variety and had something for everyone. I was with a colleague who is "not a breakfast person" but he still enjoyed it.

The staff were friendly and answered questions very quickly.

Warning - you will need a taxi or a car to get around as there are no shops or restaurants just other hotels and EU building. The hotel has a couple of restaurants as well.

Would I stay here again YES!

Dear RandomJLondon,

Thank you kindly for your wonderful review on our business hotel. We are delighted to read that you enjoyed your stay and especially our beds. For your information: our sauna, hammam and fitness facilities are located on the 7th floor of the hotel and open daily from 7h00 - 23h00.
Especially your kind comments on our breakfast buffet and your quote about your "not a breakfast person" colleague enjoying it makes us very proud.
We will share definitely your compliments on our friendly staff among our team.

We are honoured that you are considering our hotel for your next stays in Luxembourg.

This hotel is very modern, centrally located and good for a business trip.

Breakfast is very good with excellent fruit.

The rooms are spacious with views over Luxembourg and the beds are very comfortable.

All in all, there is nothing wrong with this hotel,

This modernistic hotel is situated on a hill on the fringe of the historical inner city (a good 20-25 minute walking distance). The hotel is slightly isolated and the surroundings are very quite with no city amenities within close proximity to the hotel. A paying parking garage is within close walking distance to the hotel if travelling by car, and should be taken into consideration when booking the hotel. The staff at the Melia were extremely friendly, polite and helpful. We arrived quite late on the Friday evening and were upgraded to a room on the seventh floor with the most amazing view over the historical city centre! The room was very clean, modern, new and spacious, a firm mattress and a bright clean bathroom. The dinner and breakfast was of a high standard and very well presented.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a higher floor, facing the city, as the views are amazing! Check the air condition...

Dear Rencolussi,

Thank you kindly for your review on tripadvisor and your sharing with the community. Your descriptions about the location of our hotel are perfect for other travellers finding our hotel. The inner city centre is a 15 minutes walk over the bridge Grand Duchess Charlotte or easily reachable by local buses which are making their way down town over the day every 5 minutes.
Bus stops are just 2 minutes from the hotel away. As it comes to your comment about the parking, our staff is delighted to help you with some cheaper solutions for your car, but combined with a short walking distance.
Your compliments about our extremely friendly, polite and helpful staff are much appreciated, thank you. We would be delighted to welcome you back with us for another visit of Luxembourg in our property.

To say it upfront: Most upper-class hotels in Luxemburg are everything but a bargain. The Melia is a quite new hotel located in the Kirchberg area. Accessible either by car or taxi, I wouldn't prefer walking or public transportation. Taxi transfer from the airport is ~25 Euros. As lots of construction is still going on all-around the area, it might require some extra attention to find the hotel although signs lead you there. Kirchberg area with finance, EU and cultural districts are close by, wheres downtown access takes some time especially in morning communter traffic and must be considered when travelling-

The hotel rooms are spacious, new and therefore not run-down, equipped with state-of-the-art furniture and technology. You also find a nice small gym with sauna, but the gym is quite crowded the entire evening which is why I didn't enjoy it.

I enjoyed both bar and restaurant at the Melia. The bar atmosphere is relaxing with chill-out music, nice chairs/ sofas and friendly staff. Prices are fair. The restaurant is also quite good, but expensive. Breakfast is at upper-Melia standard, although the coffee served was nothing that I would consider to be coffee (neither were cafe-au-lait and other hot beverages).

Throughout my stay the hotel staff was always friendly and very helpful. I didn't find the typical Spanish staff that hardly speaks any English or other languages, instead I only experienced "locals" and the front desk. Languages spoken are besides their locals' French, Englisch and German with German even better than English.

Dear Guest,

Thank you kindly for your good feedback and for sharing your opinion with the community.

You detail perfectly our surrounding area, The Kirchberg and the differents types of transport in Luxembourg city. It is true taxi cost is quiet expensive in Luxembourg. We would inform you for the cheaper solution, you may take the Eurobus 16 from the Airport till the stop Mudam/Philarmonie (2 minutes walk from our hotel, bus every 10minutes), it takes around 20 minutes and cost 2 euros.

We are delighted to read you enjoy your time in Meliá Luxembourg. Our comment about our room, service and breakfast makes us very proud. We thank you for your honesty about our coffee as you help us to improve our service quality and are taking our feedback in consideration.

Our staff and management team appreciate your remark about the hotel staff and language skills of our Front Office team.

We are looking forward welcoming you back to the Meliá Luxembourg.

Please accept my best regards.
