I have only stayed at a Melia once before, in Santo Domingo, which gave me high hopes for this one. It is not close to the center of Luxembourg, which is fine for some, so I did not take off too much for this. Parking is only available in an expensive public lot next door. The bed was comfortable enough. However, the fitness center / spa was a real let down. It consisted of one machine, two treadmills, and a ball. The spa consisted of a steam room and sauna that were both out of commission.

Dear ericf0310,

Thank you kindly for your review on tripadvisor.com and your sharing. We appreciate your compliments on the comfortable beds. Regarding the parking, our front desk team is delighted when asked, to help you finding a better price solution for the parking on the nearby main street Avenue JFK.
As we are not the Meliá Santo Domingo, our Fitness Area is more small, but equipped with the necessary. We do understand serious work outs can not be done that effectively, but therefore we created our program "run with u" every Wednesday evening where we are jogging with our guests more than 10k. Not far away from the hotel (10 minutes walking distance) a professional sports centre "La Coque" can be found.
We are looking forward welcoming you back with us for another visit in Luxembourg.
Please accept my,
best regards,

Stopped for one night at the hotel Melia Luxembourg on my way to northern Germany.

The hotel does not have a parking lot but there is a nice underground parking lot nearby. Make sure to park near the entrance of the parking lot and to exit by foot the way you drove in. Don't follow the signs inside the parking lot that tell you to go to the back to get to the hotel as you will have to carry your luggage up a narrow staircase and over a connecting bridge to the hotel and then have to go back down to the ground floor.

Check-in was prompt and friendly, and it seems that the reception staff speaks at least a dozen languages (I overheard them speaking to clients in French, English, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Dutch, but that last one could have been Luxemburgish).

The rooms on the 8th floor are large, with a huge bed, a standard coffee maker and a Nespresso coffe maker. The bathroom is large and the bath towels are huge (I could wrap them around my waist 2 times). Lots of amenities in the bathroom. The internet was free (and one could connect 2 devices, laptop and smartphone) but was quite slow.

Dinner at the retaurant Aqua (there is another one, but it was closed) was excellent. Nice slightly ecclectic choices (I had the tuna tartare and the pasta in squid ink with squid pieces). Prompt and friendly service.

Unfortunately, I was not able to sample the breakfast that many other reviewers have raved about, despite my showing up at 7:00 sharp, the supposed opening time, on a Saturday morning, as a tour group had already mobbed the breakfast room (must have been let in earlier by special arrangement) and there was almost no way to get into the breakfast room let alone approach any of the buffet tables.

The tour group incident is why I am not giving the Melia a 5*, as hotels need to choose between catering to full-fare paying guests, or just filling rooms with tour groups at cut-rate prices. But, to be fair, even the full fare at 122 Euros is very cheap for a luxurious hotel nearby downtown in Europe.

Room Tip: Spend a little bit more to get a room on the top floor. Rooms facing the old town can be noisy due to tour buses stopping there late at night and early in the morning with lots of people talking and moving luggage.

Dear guest.

Thank you kindly for your nice review about our hotel, its service and rooms on tripadvisor.com.
Especially your compliments on our staff makes us very proud.
Regarding the parking we may inform you, that during the weekends you may park the car along side the Avenue JFK for free. As you already described, you may follow the way through the tunnel beside the hotel despite the sign of non trespassing.
Your comment about the internet is appreciated as you pointed out the free of charge usage and the possibility to connect more than one device. We may tell you, that we are working currently with our internet provider on better connection lines in order to offer you a faster internet connection.
As it comes to your only downside of your stay, the breakfast among groups, we would like to ask for your understanding that we are appreciating all our guests and group travellers do often have a more stiff time planing than leisure guests regarding their times of breakfast. For that, they are having early their breakfast and they appreciate sitting all together by one group.

We are looking forward to your next visit in Luxembourg and we hope, you will chose the Melia Hotel Luxembourg again as your accommodation as we are delighted to welcome you with us.
Please accept my,
best regards,

What a find! This is brilliantly situated for both the financial district as well as for sightseeing. There is actually a bus stop just outside the hotel where you can hop on the Luxembourg city tour which is well worth doing. It's about a 20 minute walk into Luxembourg city & the old town is probably another 10 mins walk.

The breakfast was excellent & the service was spot on as well. The rooms are huge & have everything you could need. Overall I think it's excellent value for money. Would highly recommend.

Dear Garnix,

Thank you kindly for your compliments about our hotel, its service and situation. We appreciate your sharing them with the tripadvisor community.
Please be informed that a walk into the city centre over the red bridge "Grand Duchesse Charlotte" will take you round about 15min +/-. Our front desk staff will be delighted to give you the right direction and as well some recommendations in town what to see.
Your kind comments about our breakfast are highly appreciated by our executive chef and his team.

Recently we spent a weekend at the Melia Luxembourg and we would go back there any time. A very comfortable hotel with spacious, well-appointed, clean and quiet rooms, very friendly and helpful staff especially at the reception desk.

What else could you want from a hotel?
A good breakfast buffet? They have it.
A good location? They have it: It is not in the city center, but the sights are just a 15-minute walk or two bus stops away - and there is a bus every three to five minutes. It is right between the Museum of Modern Art (which is well-worth a visit) and the 'Philharmonie' - close to all European Institutions.
Nice - even beautiful - views? They have it: You get a picture-postcard view of Luxemburg City if you get a room that is facing west or south.
And all that in an architecturally interesting building? They have it.
And, of course, the bar and the restaurant are worth a visit.

The only (minor) downside is that you don't get free W-Lan, something most hotels of this class offer nowadays almost everywhere in the world.

But still, we got an excellent value for our money and can highly recommend this hotel.

We spent there two nights and got a big room with a nice view to the old city as requested in the reservation. The room is big with a very comfortable bed, also the bathroom is very spacious and well equipped. Both were very clean
The staff at the reception desk very friendly and helpful. The hotel is located in a nice and quiet surrounding.
At the time we booked we got a very fair rate for the room but we had to add extra pay for the wifi in the room
A recommended hotel to stay in this nice city.

Room Tip: we followed a recommendation of the tripadvisor and asked for a room with a nice view to the old city and got it.
