Hotel de la Poste

In this hotel I slept 2 nights, perfect base for exploring the city of Luxembourg. To the station on foot 5 minutes and 20 minutes from there to Luxembourg. The hotel is a pedestrian street - shopping street. Literally 2 minutes to the museum of the resistance. Housed in a historic building, rooms spacious, nicely decorated - with a decent parquet on the floor. Breakfast is included in the price - very rich. Very high quality food (including delicious cheeses and sausages). Support very helpful. I recommend to everyone!

The hotel is billed as 'Art Deco' which is true to a certain extent; the entry lobby and exterior definitely have the deco feel but the rooms are modern and in no way 'Deco' which was a disappointment, as we had decided to stay there due to our love of Art Deco.

The hotel rooms are basic. No real finishing touches, no tea or coffee making facilities and no extra bedding. The room was also really over-heated but to be fair, we did not ask the proprietor to reduce this, and there was no air-con that we could see. This affected our sleep considerably.

On checking in, the owner informed us that the doors shut at 11pm so we would need our key-card, and if there was a problem, we could use the emergency number on the door to phone him and he would return to open up for us.

On our last night, my partner was standing outside at 11.30 and a taxi arrived with a young girl (18 years old maybe)? who was travelling alone. My partner let her inside and she stated that she had a reservation but was late arriving. The reception desk was closed and the downstairs was in darkness. My partner told the girl to ring the emergency number which she did, to ask the owner to book her in.

The owner apparently refused to return, leaving the girl stranded. She had to leave the hotel and walk the streets at 11.40pm to find another hotel! OK, the owner did not know this girl was on her own and he has every right to refuse admittance but how many other travellers must arrive after 11pm on trains etc? It is not unreasonable to expect to be booked in at 11.30pm is it?!

To be honest, the hotel is in a great location (on the central shopping street) and it was perfectly serviceable, but really nothing special and the 'Art Deco' features do not warrant a visit for this purpose, as they were uninspiring. There are better hotels which are much cheaper if you do not mind staying a little further out of the centre. My friends stayed at another hotel a taxi ride away which was superior and cost less.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the street as they have shutters. It is not a noisy street. The windows can be...
