Hotel Eden au Lac
Ranked #3 of 8 Hotels in Echternach

The hotel has a 1960’s atmosphere that brings you back into another era. The reception, restaurant and bedrooms are dated. As is the old fashioned, formal decorum which the staff and management seems to want to uphold (running children are frowned upon). Nevertheless, staff is correct and friendly.
The bedrooms on the sunside are outdated with old carpets and furniture but the bathroom was newly fitted and fine. The masterbed was a 1930’s dark brown wooden masterpiece consisting of two single beds with a huge split in the middle. Not so great for loving couples.
The restaurant provides a daily changing five course set menu as part of the half board package that can only be booked for a minimum of two days. A la carte is very restricted. Just two starters and two main courses. Not very handy with two small children and when you don’t want to dine for hours on end. A pitty really, we would have liked to check out the food which comes recommended.
The pool area is great though. Both indoors and outdoors. However, the waiter is hardly ever at his station. And the poolside menu is very limited, especially for kids (again).
Wifi is restricted to the lobby, which is not up to five star standard.
Breakfast is wonderful, especially on the outdoor terrace overlooking the valley.
The lone piano player in the empty lobby at night completes the picture of this fin de siècle residence that made me feel nostalgic at times.

Room Tip: The rooms on the lakeview side seem to be more modern. The sunside rooms are old and worn.

We stayed in Eden au Lac for 3 nights (parents & 8y old daughter). The reception was very professional, welcoming and promising. A first disappointment was the room, although the most expensive category, that was a little outdated (terrace door who was blocking, bathroom without any charm, very hard matrasses). A second disappointment was the diner : ordinary quality (3 star level, really nothing more) and extremely slow service. Of course high prices, especially the (traditional) winecard (60-265 EUR). The wellness center was very nice, only a pity that the outdoor pool was closed in the morning. A nice surprise when we left. The communication about the prices was not clear. You can expect some nice extra's you did not expect (or at least were not communicated in advance). For 50EUR per child on the room of the parents. Beware of taking a Nespresso that is exposed in an open box, very inviting and without any notice of price. They give the impression it is complimentary, not unusual for a 5-star hotel, but they charge 3 EUR per Nespresso. Really vicious. The audience is older (70+). If you are younger and used to contemporary quality in European countries (don't even think of what you receive in a 5-star hotels in the East...), don't go here. You'll certainly be disappointed.

The restaurant is very beautiful and the food is also very good.
The room is big but is a bit old fashion, the bathroom is new and very good.

We booked a room with an Echternach view for a small supplement which was well worth it - we had a small balcony and the view was superb. The room itself was pretty big, with a quite dated bathroom but a very powerful shower, and separate bath. I have seen photos in their brochure of more modern bathrooms, so maybe they are refurbing slowly.

There is an indoor and outdoor pool, free gym, pool, and table tennis, and outdoor tennis for a small hourly charge. They also offer a free shuttle bus to the village.

We ate in the restaurant for dinner - a bright, spacious room with great views over the lake. Quite pricey, though - my starter was €23 and main course €33. It was very good though, with excellent service.

There was a cocktail bar with a lovely barman which is open pre-dinner, and then he goes downstairs to the English bar, where you can still get cocktails and other drinks.

Breakfast was the usual buffet selection of eggs, cheese, ham, tinned fruit, cereal, bread and excellent croissants.

There were only 20 or so other people staying in the hotel, and the service was exceedingly friendly throughout, with staff speaking a mbixture of English, French and German as required. We plan to go back in the summer months when it will no doubt be busier - hope they can keep it up!

My wife and I stayed for a week in Eden au Lac.
The location is superb : on a hillside, just outside Echternach, with a nice view at the small city.
The food is the best we have ever had : every evening a 5 course diner, with a very good balance and not too large portions. Some of the dishes were really very surprising : creative combinations.
Wednesday evening there is a starters and dessert buffet and saturday evening a full cold and warm buffet : including lobster !
The service is very stylish : you are treated as a prince !
I can only comment about the room we booked : top floor with a large terrace and airco (not all rooms have airco).
Fitness is very well equiped : many recent equipments.
2 large swimming pools : one inside, one outside.
Hotel has a wellness center, but we didn't use it.
You can debate whether the hotel is worth its 5 stars : I would rate them between 4 and 5. But it is certainly value for money, no doubt about it.
We talked with some other guests : mostly belgians : some of them visit the hotel already for 25 years.
The "average" guest was older than 50-60. But also families with small children.
We certainly will go back !
