The hotel has a 1960’s atmosphere that brings you back into another era. The reception, restaurant and bedrooms are dated. As is the old fashioned, formal decorum which the staff and management seems to want to uphold (running children are frowned upon). Nevertheless, staff is correct and friendly.
The bedrooms on the sunside are outdated with old carpets and furniture but the bathroom was newly fitted and fine. The masterbed was a 1930’s dark brown wooden masterpiece consisting of two single beds with a huge split in the middle. Not so great for loving couples.
The restaurant provides a daily changing five course set menu as part of the half board package that can only be booked for a minimum of two days. A la carte is very restricted. Just two starters and two main courses. Not very handy with two small children and when you don’t want to dine for hours on end. A pitty really, we would have liked to check out the food which comes recommended.
The pool area is great though. Both indoors and outdoors. However, the waiter is hardly ever at his station. And the poolside menu is very limited, especially for kids (again).
Wifi is restricted to the lobby, which is not up to five star standard.
Breakfast is wonderful, especially on the outdoor terrace overlooking the valley.
The lone piano player in the empty lobby at night completes the picture of this fin de siècle residence that made me feel nostalgic at times.
