“Reasonable place for a short stay”
Reviewed May 7, 2012

We stayed for 2 nights whilst exploring the area, which worked well. Did not try out the spa. Just after Easter and the hotel was pretty much deserted. We stayed in what was called a Comfort room in the newer annex. Decor rather outdated (pale blue mock croc effect wallpaper in our room!) but it was spotless clean and spacious with mini bar, big king size bed that was very comfortable, good bathroom and plenty of room for us in main bedroom area. Plenty of wardrobe space too if you were staying longer. Quiet even though it overlooked the road and forest beyond. We ate in the restaurant with 2 other couples so lacked atmosphere and they need to get rid of the old dry flower arrangements that look very sad. Food reasonable not elaborate and not cheap. Next night tried to eat in town but no one out at 8pm in April so tried Grand Hotel - like an old peoples home!! Bel Air definitely had more life! So ate back at Bel Air. Bar area after meal welcoming enough.

My German is not that good, so I write in English. The last time we were in this hotel, was 20 years ago. At time we were all without kids, getting married. We were very happy about the food, the situation, the sevice, etc. Now, 20 years later, we returned with our teenage kids. The food is still good, creative, not too much, good quality for money, they added a big swimmingpool, which is wonderful, it's inside, but you walk out onto the grass very easily, the service si correct and friendly, the rooms were tidy and big enough. You can cross the road and immediately start a beautiful walkt through the arera, which is very special. The only thing that really bothered us is the interior of the hotel. It is so oldfashioned and out of time/fashion, that you notice all the time. The lounges downstairs are exceptable, it is like an old English hotel, but the fabricks in the rooms are so oldfashioned, that it makes you laugh! That is the only negative thing we can say, and we will return definitely, with or without change of interior!

Room Tip: in the old building, first floor, front side,

This hotel is a long way from 4 star. Ignoring the dozen or so dead flies in our windowsill, the room was very (very!) outdated and the hotel manages not to make the most of its pretty location, overlooking the forests. Unfortunately it is close to the Echternach-Diekirch road and because it is in a valley cars can be heard easily.

The spa facilities are quite nice and closer to what one would expect of a four star hotel.
