“Great view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

This is a nice hotel witha lovely view of the sea and Torshavn. The room was was at lowest level but you don't feel it as it still has a great view. Only problem was that there was no lift for bringing down the suitcase, had to take long stairs. The breakfast is also nice.

Hotel Foroyar in Torshavn is ideally located to explore the enchanting Faroe islands. It is situated at a vantage point offering a wide vista, to enjoy the play of changing light on the sea and the distant mountains.
The hotel blends into the landscape and with its turf laden long roofs, it epitomises modern adaptation of an age old architecture. The rooms are spacious, well furnished, with comfotable beds, clean and with free wifi.
The breakfast is ample, healthy with a good supply of fresh fruits.
The staff are friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable.

Room Tip: All rooms have good view of the harbour and distant mountains.

Having not stayed at any other hotels in the Faroes, unlike some other reviewers, I can't really say if this is the best place to stay or not. I found it something of a curate's egg - good in parts. With its turf roof and being half-buried into the hillside it is rather interesting. The room was fine, although it was quite a long walk from reception to get there. The bar area was nice (the Rinku Steinur was definitely the best of the three draft beers on offer) and it did decent bar food. Staff were friendly and helpful, especially the bar staff. The hotel's location above the town does give it good views (weather permitting), but it also means you really need to go by car or taxi if you want to go into town, e.g. for an evening meal. If you walked, it would be a long uphill march on the way back. The hotel caters to tour groups - perhaps because of its size: the rather mediocre breakfast was served in the restaurant, which looked and felt like a factory canteen. I think a section is perhaps curtained off in the evening but the decor was without any charm. One thing the hotel really lacks is any sort of spa facility or sauna, which would be very welcome after a day outside in sometimes 'challenging' weather. Just a couple of minutes walk away from the hotel are the Berg Hestar stables, where it is possible to go riding. Note: the signposts to the hotel are so small as to be almost invisible: the turnoff on the sort of ring road is next to a large cream coloured building selling cars, then head left up the hill.

Room Tip: Try to get a room beginning with the number 1 (e.g. 123): the windows of those in the 200s are at su...

This is the best and indeed the only decent hotel of its kind on the Faroes. It caters for conferences, weddings, hikers and birders. It is in a lovely situation with views over Torshavn - when the skies are clear that is. We were there during a very chilly and foggy period in July and we really appreciated the comfort of the hotel after our days our walking. Sleeping on the beds was like floating on a cloud. The food is excellent though very expensive for us from the UK. Breakfasts were amazing with a huge choice on offer. My only slight criticism is that the hotel is somewhat impersonal. We stayed for 5 days whereas most people seem only to stay for 1 or 2 nights and we never got to know any of the staff as there is constant change of shifts. Pity there isn't a swimming pool.

Room Tip: All rooms have views out on to grassland and the town below. All rooms are pretty quiet as they are...

First visit to Faroe Islands. Situated on a hill overlooking the harbour in Torshavn. It is a 20 min walk downhill to the harbour and a while longer up the steep hill back. Worth it though. Spectacular view. Don't be surprised to see men mowing the grass on the roof. The Café is excellent. The restaurant - Koks - is spectacular "New Scandinavian" cuisine. Best booked in advance. Good comfortable rooms, friendly staff.

Room Tip: All rooms have great views over the harbour - when weather allows.

Stayed at the Foroyar hotel during a conference in june 2013. The hotel is situated on a hill above the City, with spectacular views of the City and the fjords and the Atlantic ocean. The staff are very serviceminded and very helpfull upon any request that we had. The rooms are very comfortable and the bathrooms nice and working fine. The restaurant is offering yet annoter spectacular view of the City and the sea, though the menu does not have that much to choose from, but the dishes the offer are quite delicious.
The only disadvantage of the hotel is that it isn't situated in the down town area, so you have to do a bit of a down hill walking on your way to the harbour area, and you have to 'climb' the hill on your way back, but the exercise is good, and if you are in the lazy mood, you can take a Cab on the way back.
And the Faroe Islands ?, beside the often poor weather and the following closedown of the airport, there is only good things to say, green valleys, mountains, sheep, spectacular views and nice and friendly people.

Wow, Faroe Islands are all nature and beautiful, and this hotel in no exception. Beautiful views of the harbor and capital town below. Comfortable rooms and good accommodations. Free Internet and service with a smile from all staff. My first time to the Faroe Islands and when I return I will be sure to stay here.
