Description: Giannini a family run business since 1988 is an excellent place to have lunch or dinner when visiting Valletta. The restaurant is situated above St. Michael's bastions with vast views of Manoel Island and the pretty Marsamxetto Harbour. The third floor of a typical Malta townhouse, reached by lift from the ground floor lounge bar, has been converted into a delightful restaurant. Giannini tends to be popular with locals for business lunches and romantic dinners giving it a casual but discreet atmosphere. The cuisine is a delicious blend of Mediterranean food. Fresh fish is available daily (ask the host) and you should also consider the daily specials such as the pastas scribbled on the board. The a la carte menu changes according to season with the current options for starters including carpaccio of octopus, risottos and fresh seashells amongst others. Mains include roasted lamb, local rabbit, pan seared duck breast and daily fresh fish and fresh angus beef. The a-la-carte menu is attached next to Giannini's contact details above. A rather comprehensive wine list is also available to complement the meal.

“A wonderful evening spot”
Reviewed September 10, 2012

I used to come here with my parents 30 years ago, but my wife and I only started revisiting a couple of years ago when our son could be trusted! It is a very "grown up" place, but not stuffy in any way. It is worth requesting a table by the window since the view over Sliema harbour is spectacular. The food and service in no way play second fiddle and it is difficult to think how it might be improved. I am so looking forward to returning next month!

“Wonderful restaurant with a gorgeous view”
Reviewed August 30, 2012

I had possibly one of the top 3 tastiest rib eyes ever. The view is amazing as is the actual restaurant. The staff was lovely and very helpful. I would definitely recommend this place if you want to treat yourself. On the slightly more expensive side but definitely worth it.

“A Treat”
Reviewed August 9, 2012

My husband and I ate a wonderful leisurely lunch here on a very warm, humid day in July; it was so warm that there were no tables set on the outside terrace. We made a reservation to ensure that we had a table by the window in the air-conditioned diningroom. We arrived early at noon and were warmly welcomed into the air-conditioned bar downstairs for an aperitif, a couple of cold, local beers, while we waited for the kitchen to open. Indeed, we had a table, overlooking the harbour and the view toward Sliema - delightful -- probably the one of the best views we had during a meal in Malta.

Although this meal was the most expensive meal we had during a two week stay in Malta, the quality and presentation of the food, the attentive service and the view contributed to a good value. We choose to share a John Dory that was presented among other fish and lobster on the restaurant's fresh seafood offering plate. In general, in any of Malta's restaurants, we found that the fresh fish was somewhere dear, but -- usually quite good. The John Dory here was excellent, simply grilled with a light, herb sauce. It provided a good sized portion for the two of us. We shared one, lovely dessert and had a bottle of nice, local red wine. Coffee completed the meal.

Do go and enjoy this restaurant, if you have a chance.

“Don't pass up on this spot!”
Reviewed August 5, 2012

We love everything about this place. We love the set up and how close it is to the water....well if we are dining out on the balcony we can almost reach out and touch the deep blue sea of pretty Marsamxetto Harbour.
The people that work there are super efficiency and friendly...but most of all, the food is absolutely wonderful. Super fresh and tasty...so I am not going to waste my time and examine methodically and in detail plate for plate, as we have yet never found fault in our orders.
We always have a good time when we go there, notwithstanding it can sometimes get pricey for 2 or more people, but all in all good times were had and well worth the drive.
Oh yes...just to add to the awesomeness of this place...they serve the best creme caramel ever.

“Delightful evening out”
Reviewed July 25, 2012

Went to Giannini on a whim, having read great things in a few guidebooks, so somewhat uncertain about getting a place without a reservation. The welcome surpassed expectations - I was immediately given a table for one, and then treated to an outstanding meal with impeccable service. House specialities, such as char-grilled calamari and fresh grouper, were simply prepared, impeccably presented, and utterly delicious. Accompanied by an affordable, good quality wine list, it made for a perfect meal while watching the sun set over the harbour. Just a lovely evening all round!
