Description: Malata, historic restaurant in Valletta, serves delicious Mediterranean cuisine prepared by our young chef. A classic is our "Cipollazza stew" or the scorpion fish cooked stew with capers and tomatoes. One-time atmosphere, with a youthful and gritty staff. A dynamic menu and true southern hospitality.

“Second visit”

We had previously visited the Malata while on a weeks holiday in Malta in the evening but had been sat inside as all the tables outside were taken. This time we called in the early afternoon while on a visit during a cruise and managed to get a table outside on a lovely sunny day.
The food was absolutely gorgeous and we had a lovely bottle of rose to wash it down. The waitress was charming and extremely helpful.
This is some where well worth a visit in a beautiful city.

“Beautiful food, good service but a little on the pricey side”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 18, 2013

This restaurant is centrally situated near the main square in Valletta and has both outdoor and indoor eating areas. We booked a table as this restaurant is always busy and very popular. The waiting staff were excellent - friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, and - given the night had turned a litle cool and windy, more than happy to find us a heater to warm us up!

The food was beautiful, although the portions are a little on the demure side - I had 4 grilled King Prawns for starters and Sea Bass for my main which were delicious, but I left the restaurant feeling hungry!

The food was very tasty though, and beautifully presented with a good choice of accompanying side dishes. Again, we chose a Maltese wine (we were trying different ones each evening) and we weren't disappointed.

They had live music on the night we were there, and all in all it was a very enjoyable evening. The total bill came to just under 80 euros, which I felt was just a little on the high side in terms of value for money. If you feel like treating yourselves though, definitely one to try.

“Nice food in the square outside The Palace”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 7, 2013 via mobile

This is probably an excellent restaurant when everything works. The evening ambience with the fountains outside the Palace is very special.
The food is good but, unfortunately several wines were not available. Foreign staff are quite good at speaking English but not good enough and a few
Misunderstandings were cleared up. Would visit again to see if they can get it 100% right.

“A lunchtime treat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 6, 2013

Do not miss having a meal at this delightful restaurant! We had a wonderful lunch overlooking the square which was bathed in glorious sunshine. The sea food pasta was truly superb and with a bottle of well chilled Italian white it was the best meal of our holiday. Although service was excellent (one of our party had to rush back to work - poor guy) the rest of us savoured the atmosphere and sat under the canvas umbrellas watching the world go by for as long as we wished - no rushing to get rid of us!! Will I go back - you bet - canI go again tomorrow ...or even for lunct today!

“Great food on the square”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 5, 2013

We wandered in on a sunny mid-week day for lunch. There were no tables in the shade, so we went inside to a lovely cavern, with stone walls, soft lighting, and air conditioning. After we'd ordered our wine and food, the upstairs waiter told us that a tale had opened up, and he'd move us to the plaza if we'd like. YES! Poached salmon over warm potatoes and crisp greens and Irish beef carpaccio were delicious, and the crisp white wine the hostess chose for us was perfect with the food. A lovely place, with an interesting menu.
