Malta had two big sieges during its history and survived and won both of them.
The first was the great Ottoman dating back to 1565, and the second was the WWII siege 1940-43. This memorial is dedicated to the latter one, and depicts the heroic defense of this heroic island, better described in the Lascaris Rooms (see that review).
This memorial is across the Lower Barrakka gardens, and consists of a huge bell encircled by huge stone columns.
Entrance is free, and like in many other places there're great photo ops of the Grand harbor.

A must see if you are in Valletta, once you climb the stairs you have such an amazing view of the harbour and across to the three cities.

The site of the Siege Bell provides excellent views across Grand Harbour and is probably only 10 minutes or so from the centre of Valletta, near Lower Barracca Gardens. It commemorates the 8000 approx British and Maltese who lost their lives in 1940-3. The bell is bronze and huge.

This Memorial was built to commemorate those who fought during the Second World War. It is situated on the lower part of St Christopher bastion, near the Lower Barracca Gardens. Malta was attacked by the Italians and as a result had to successfully defend itself with the help of Britain of which it was still a part. Malta suffered terribly and this memorial is a reminder of these events which took place between 1940-1943. It is worth a visit and the harbour views are absolutely stunning. There are a few steps to negotiate but it is all worth it.

I chose to view this from afar rather than add more steps to my day but it is a calm , spot to visit, a place to remember the sacrifices others made to keep us free
