We treated ourselves to a few days in Valletta before moving on to Gonzo and had booked in at the Excelsior. What a wonderful hotel with the most amazing views over the bay, the backdrop to the recently made Sin bad TV series. The staff where excellent and our room was what I would have expected for a hotel of this calibre. They even organised a chauffeur driven Jaguar to take us to the port. Would definitelyrecommend

Absolutely fabulous in every aspect from facilities to service.
The staff were always attentive but never obtrusive.
We had a magnificent sea view room with balcony on the 10th floor. We used the balcony every day for snacks and just taking in the view.
The outdoor pool was lovely but we had a couple of windy days which made it a little chilly for a swim.
The only facility we didn't use was the spa

We stayed here on a room only basis, therefore are unable to comment on the set meals. The hotel is located in Floriana, which merges with Valletta. It is a 10 minute walk to the city gates and bus terminal. The buses go all over Malta and are easy to use simply buy a day ticket from the terminal for €2.60 and travel all day.
The hotel is situtaed over looking a small bay and has a man made small beach from which you can swim in the sea. There is an indoor and outdoor pool both of which are very well kept. There was an ample amount of sunbirds available around the pools and on the beach. There were two bars/cafes by the pool, Tiki which is more reasonably priced but unfortunately closed on Oct 1st for winter and the thatch club bar, where the food is limited and very expensive (€11.50 for a chicken wrap!). The hotel has two restaurants to eat in (we did not due to bring room only). The restaurants and bar are set up do you look out over the pool and bay which is nice. The rooms are very spacious. All have a balcony with a table and two chairs. The room has air con, fridge with small freezer compartment and a safe free of charge. There is also free wifi in public areas. The staff were all pleasant, helpful and friendly. The rooms were cleaned daily and two bottles of water replaced free of charge. Overall the hotel was very clean and well presented. I would recommend this hotel to anyone considering staying in Valletta.

The first thing to say is that the Excelsior is a genuine 5 star experience. The little extras that can be missing are all delivered - from the door staff who never fail to open the door, to the turn down service at night, to the complimentary water delivered daily, to the spotlessly clean public areas - the Excelsior delivers.

I picked the hotel because it had the pools, spa and private beach for my wife but was just 5 minute walk in to the old town for me. A perfect combo of a resort hotel in the city. The rooms are large with balconies, the carpet could do with renewing, but otherwise a good standard of room, I would opt for a sea view if possible.

There are lots of good things to mention about the hotel, but I would give special mention to the small private beach, the quality of the breakfast buffet and the stunning views of the harbour and Manoel Island. Plus the staff who are eager to deliver a 5 star experience.

Of course there were minor niggles, I think the hotel would do well to have a wider range of cheaper pool snacks. The pool restaurant is nice but too expensive for many families staying at the hotel. Serving drinks outside at night would also be a nice touch.

Overall superb, I wouldn't hesitate to return, fine hotel and a lovely historic city.

Room Tip: Sea view room, 5th floor and upwards.

This complex is in a wonderful location and the views across the bay are wonderful. The pools are fantastic and private beach is a pleasant surprise. Prices of drinks are reasonable and service is friendly and efficient. I was not impressed at having to pay an advance 50 Euro per day to cover "extras". Surely it would be better to simply add up the extras and pay for them at the end of the stay? Also, sunbeds were crammed together on the beach and around the pool with absolutely no room between them despite the fact that only around a quarter of the beds were occupied. It would be better to stack half the beds and allow more space for guests. Breakfast was good but coffee was poor. You could of course pay extra for a freshly made espresso etc. I think this is a bit cheap for a 5-star resort! Air conditioning unit was very noisy but was necessary.

I've spent 5 terrific days of my life in this gorgeous hotel. Great location: walking distance to Valletta, a few minutes from main bus station with buses to all over Malta. Very good and king personal. The rooms are pretty large and very comfortable. The food is not the greatest.
