“Full of History and Great Wine Bars”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2013

Wonderful old street full of tremendous history and today home of some of Valletta's best Wine Bars and restaurants. Charming and Fun. Check it out, but research history first so you fully appreciate your walk and stop into one of the wine bars and have a plate with a glass of wine, become part of the place!

“Can almost hear the bustle”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 27, 2013

After dining in Palazzo Preca we enjoyed a walk the length of Strait Street. We found it exceedingly atmospheric, added to by our surprise at how relatively dark this narrow street is.

Another aspect that struck us was its quietness, obviously in striking contrast with its past. We noticed a couple of the preserved bar signs signalling its previous bustling life as did the very narrow doors.

Different characters and different group of people. Valletta is quiet at night but not at Strait Street

“It takes time, but it will get there....”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 31, 2013

It's a long, slow process, and the street will never quite recapture what it was in its heyday simply because the days of the Royal British Navy, the raison d'etre as the entertainment hub in Valletta, are long since gone. But if you look close enough, you will see the gradual rehabilitation of this street. Some of the best restaurants (Palazzo Preca and Pappanis), Wine Bars (Trabuxu, Whiskey & Bistro, Tico Tico), the evident resurfacing and works-in-progress of some refurbished buildings indicate a clear message... a silent evolution of Strait Street. For those interested in knowing its past.. the book 'Strada Stretta - The Gut, which for many years lit up Valletta' has now also been translated in English.

It's unlikely to find Strait Street busy duirng weekday evenings, however Friday and Saturday nights, the area is attracting the local 'cool crowd'. So if you are anywhere in the city, walk down to Piazza San Gorg and turn left into Old Theatre Street just off Marks and Spencer, you may just like the feel of things.

“just a normal old road with old history thats trying to be revived.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 25, 2013

just the normal small street youd find in valletta. nothing so special. so no need to hype or fuss about. some small cafeterias are opening up business instead of the old bars that once ruled on during the 2nd world war.
