Owner description: The Saluting Battery is one of Malta's most vibrant visitor attractions where history is brought to life daily! Located high along Valletta's eastern historic ramparts it enjoys unrivalled spectacular views of the Grand Harbour and its surrounding fortified towns. It is also perhaps the oldest saluting battery still in operation anywhere in the world. Here one can see a fully restored gun powder magazine, an artillery side-arm store, a handsome collection of original muzzle-loading artillery , ammunition and equipment and get a close-look at the saluting guns. The battery is equipped with audio-guides but guided torus in English are also available three times a day at 11.00, 12.30 And 15.00Hrs.

“An interesting experience”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

This is well worth a visit - I didn't realise that there was so much I didn't know about cannons and how they were used. It was a really interesting tour, far more than I was expecting!

“Now doing sunset salutes as well”
Reviewed November 20, 2013

This is a regular visiting point on our visits to Valletta. We have previously ben there for the firing of the noonday gun but were pleasantly surprised to find that a sunset gun is now fired as well. Fantastic views of Grand Harbour and the cruise liner port. Now accessible from the water front by the Upper Barracca Lift.

“Boom!”
Reviewed November 20, 2013

No prizes for guessing that you get a ground shaking boom. We weren't there early enough to get a front row view and couldn't actually see anything, which was disappointing but we could hear what was being said. Moral of story - get there early if you want to see as well as hear!

Hi Eileen R. I suspect from your review that you actually visited the Upper Barrakka Gardens to see our display from there, which overlooks us. It does get crowded there, as there's no charge to visit the gardens.

If you come into the Saluting Battery itself there's plenty of ringside seats, so to speak! The very best way to beat the crowds is to come down into the Saluting Battery itself! We're only 2 euro for adults and no charge for accompanied under 16s- and there it is fully restored to it's 19th Century condition, and with a guided tour thrown in. best value in Valletta!

“Go with a BANG!”
Reviewed November 18, 2013

Best free show in Valetta. Guns fired every day at 12.00 and 16.00.
Watch from the gardens above for a magnificent view of Grand Harbour for free or pay just 2 Euro to go onto the gun battery, examine the guns and talk to the Gunners. There is also a small collection of gunnery artifacts. Excellent spectacle and free timecheck for your watch.

Hi MikeB, Thank you for your comments. I do hope you visited us. We can be seen for free, from the Garden, but we do hope our 2 euro entrance is worth the extra. The gunners also do a full guided tour of the restored heritage site. As a charitable trust, having visitors means we can keep going and delivering all we do for heritage.
