“Great location in Valletta”
Reviewed March 20, 2013

The Osborne is wonderfully located in Valletta. Easy walk to historic sites, restaurants and shopping. The hotel is cozy and quaint and the staff extremely helpful. The bartender, Jesmond, is especially delightful and makes one feel very welcome. He makes the bar in the evening "come alive". He was also quite helpful in giving us ideas of how to arrange our days to maximize sightseeing.

Rooms are adequate considering the age and history of the hotel. Our room smelled a bit of cat, and was on the noisy side at night, but in any case the rooms were clean. Front desk staff very helpful. Breakfasts are great and dinners are ok. But in any case very reasonable. Would highly recommend the Osborne

Room Tip: 502 by the elevator is quite noisy.

Ronald made us very welcome when we arrived and absolutely nothing was a bother to him. The hotel was clean and very central to all sites - thoroughly enjoyed our stay and planning a return.
Happy hour is in the evening when the bar quickly fills with residents and the atmosphere is good.We ate out most nights as there are plenty of restaurants close at hand. Order of the day is a good pair of walking shoes - never seen hills and cobbles like it!!!

My wife and i stayed at this hotel in february on a b/b basis ,first the good stuff,we were in room 503 which has fantastic views of downtown valletta and a little bit of selima The room itself was quite small but nicely furnished the bathroom was small but useable the only problem we had regarding cleaniness was the shower flexible pipe was ingrained with dirt my wife had to clean it before use.As previously reported the breakfasts are an aquired taste The thing that brings this hotel up to a four star review is the location 5 mins to the main shopping streets and really quiet at night time.
Valletta is a city with some beautiful buildings, fantastic history and plenty to see and do the local buses are brilliant you can go anywhere on the island on a day ticket for 2.80 euro the best meals we had were in the little bistro on south st 5 mins from the hotel it also has a wine bar ten yards from the bistro .the waterfront is a nice place to sit and watch the world go bye, do it the easy way and take the free lift from upper barracca gardens down to the harbour

Stayed at the Osbourne for the last four years and will be again this year. The hotel has made some good improvements over this period in particular to its rooms and a very nice small rooftop pool and sunbathing area. The rooms are well furnished and very clean and the staff friendly and helpful. It should be noted that most rooms have no great views but the Osbornes location for visiting Valletta and Malta in general is second to none.

This hotel is very quiet and perfectly located for walking around Valletta. The bus station is a short walk away making the rest of the island accessible. Dinner each evening was well cooked and presented and very reasonably priced.

Stayed at this hotel in Valletta for four nights in May 2012 Found the hotel to be very nice and cosy and was situation in a very good location. This was my first trip to Valletta and I really loved my visit here. I was a female travelling alone but felt very comfortable in this small and cosy hotel. I had a nice modern double room with flat screen tv and air conditioning. Every thing went well during my stay. There is a nice little cosy bar to have a drink at the end of the day after some lovely sightseeing around this very historic city. Breakfast I found was very good and I went down early and there was a good choice of things to choose from. Hotel is very close to the main bus station in Valletta where you can catch buses to go to the other parts of this fascinating island. Love the old steep streets of Valletta and there are some wonderful views of Harbour from the Upper and Lower Barracca Gardens. Malta has so much interesting history. A walk down Republic Street is really nice and there are so beautiful churches and a visit to the magnificent interior of St Johns Cathedral and The Grand Masters Palace is a must. I also spent three nights in Xini on the island of Gozo which I also really enjoyed and is well worth three or four days there. I would definitely love to go back to Malta again. also forgot to mention that the beautiful old walled city of Mdina is also a must see.

I agree with other reviews that Hotel Osborne enjoys an excellent location and the price is low.
Not to be misunderstood I did sleep well and as I was on a business trip, I had no time to complain to the management, so in all fairness to them I might have bad luck.

But to my experience, this is no place, I would return to:

*) unfriendly "welcome" by a lady receptionist in the afternoon; preferring to talk with friends than to print out a receipt which would have taken her half a minute
*) of course the man/owner working in the morning was friendly, if you judge friendliness by loudly asking everyone if everything is OK. Receptionists also seemed a little bit to keen to sell expensive trips and transfers, especially to older guests, instead telling them about the excellent public transport in Malta.
*) the "asked for" quiet room was not during morning & day-time, thanks to loud cleaning-staff, banging doors and construction-work.
*) tea-making facilities were dirty; the tea-bags the lowest quality available. When using one tea-bag the first day, it was not even replaced.
*) damp smell in the bath-room
*) breakfast is really bad! Low quality all around in 70's surroundings; bordering on the surreal. Service concentrates on asking for the room-number.
