Owner description: Built between 1573 and 1577, this cathedral contains two masterpieces by Caravaggio.

Incredible cathedral, the detail, the gold, the paintings, especially two of Caravaggio's and the marble... . €6 to get in with headphones so not a bad deal.

... but, if you like churches, this is very impressive. We liked the architecture (it would stand alone) but found the internal gilding and other ornamentation a bit OTT.

I'm not one to always want to see a cathedral or church when I go abroad but in this case, this is a must see if you appreciate history.... one to visit after you've done The Malta Experience audio visual show and understand the history behind the Cathedral.

There are almost too many things to look at in this ornate cathedral full of the arrogance and wealth of the Knights of St John. A must see when in Valetta.

Since our last visit twenty years ago this beautiful building has had much care lavished on it.

The main improvement is the restoration of the gilding ripped off by Napoleon's troops. St. John's now looks better than at any time in the last two hundred years!

For such a grand building, it has a surprisingly cosy, welcoming feel. and the new lighting shows off the amazing floor. No-one does church floors like the Maltese!

Even if you're only in Valetta for a short time, please try to visit this historic place.
