St.John's Co-Cathedral is a gem of Baroque art and architecture.I think it is a must for every tourist to visit this cathedral. It is a showcase to Mattia Preti.

As I come from this tiny island of Malta which is rich in culture and history I can write first hand about our island. Of course Valletta is unique with its architecture and narrow roads and all the churches and especially St John's Cathedral which is a jewel being very plain from outside but as you go in one see all the marvelous stone carvings on all the walls and frescoes on ceilings . It has two of Caravaggio's painting one must see. We were lucky during the Second World War as 70 percent of Valletta was hit by bombs but luckily the Cathedral was spared.

Built as the conventual church for the Knights of St John between 1573 and 1578, the Co-Cathedral is one of the most beautiful shrines in all of Europe. The stark facade does not do justice to the richness and beauty of the artistic treasures that lie within. With its eight chapels, each dedicated to the patron saint of the eight provenances of the Knights of St John, the ornate beauty of the architecture, gilded arched columns, inlaid marble tombstone flooring and painted vaulted ceilings, it is a unique collection of 16th century treasures that should not be missed.

St. John's Co-Cathedral is quite simply stunningly beautiful. The facade is very simple and plain and so the richly embellished interior is even more astonishing. Take your time to absorb what you see. There is so much that you it should be savoured slowly.
