Its a fabulous place to spend Christmas! Our flight was 15 hours late (many thanks Easy Jet for your gross incompetence) and we arrived at 1:30am on Christmas morning, the greeting was welcome and our rooms were ready. It could not have been easier just to drop our bags and head to the bar where our late arrival was no problem. In fact other guests were having an early morning breakfast after going to midnight mass!
Breakfasts were a real treat for us as its the meal we usually miss, the smoked salmon omelette was a treat and bucks fizz every day was simply an extraordinary and festive treat. Some of the pastries were to die for, diets now!
Christmas day lunch was out of this world especially as it was a buffet. It was all well cooked, hot and oh so tasty. The atmosphere in the restaurant was buzzing and when Santa ran around....
The staff were very professional and also talkative, impressive as they were there looking after us and not with their families - this attitude goes across all staff from cleaner to hotel manager who makes place special.
Christmas decorations were very tasteful and the person playing Elton John and Billy Joel songs in the Palm Court was very good, we even stopped talking to listen to him with a glass or two of good Maltese wine.
The hotel made Christmas special in other ways, initially there was a Christmas card from the staff in our room, they organised a tour taking guests to several locations where we learnt about a tradition of making Cribs - a real eyeopener and Dr Tims talk about the Maritime history in Malta was a bonus. He is doing a further talk at Easter so must get booked in soon.
We have now been 3 times in the last 14 months and we feel totally relaxed and at home here. Its not a modern high tech swish place, its real home charm with great staff and no TVs or piped music around the hotel. WiFi in the bars and public area is the only step forward in modern ways. We love the old fashioned charm and we will return. Our children (22 &18) can now understand why we keep dashing off here and they liked the location of being able to walk into the city and then find us in Charles Creech wine bar!
Anyway book here and have a great time, but don't go shouting about it too much or we won't be able to get a room!
