“Coat and suncream required!”

This was a great way to see the sights all around Sliema and Valetta, the commentary was really good and the lady spoke a variety of languages very well. Just be aware that it is possible to burn and freeze at the same time! Although it was a lovely sunny day both my husband and I managed to slightly burn our faces - combination of Sun, wind and water, despite factor 30 sunscreen. It was also cold in shorts and t-shirts due to the wind chill on the top of the boat. So take a coat or fleece with you. Great photo opportunities and time given to use cameras effectively. Very good value cruise, we went with Captain Morgan as I don't like small boats - not a good sailor!! But you can do it even cheaper if you don't mind small craft.

Pick a sunny day and embark on a tour of Malta's grand harbor with its several bays and inlets. There is no better way to appreciate what formed the island and its people.

We were on one of the smaller boats and went round both harbours and various inlets. The information and history given on the commentary made it a very useful and enjoyable trip.It was not too warm but the boat was well set up against the sea wind.

Captain Morgan has the bigger boats and more tours than its competitors and they're good, but may be slipping into a rut. Friends who went with another company plying the exact same route got more tossed about in a smaller boat when it went round the headland into the other part of the harbour but they really enjoyed a more interesting commentary including details of the ships and super-yachts in the harbour on the day.
Beware what you pay! The full price of €16 could include pick-up from your hotel but if you book at the harbour side you can pay between €15 and €10 depending on what the competing agents think they can get away with.

We got on the Captain Morgan boat from Sliema and the trip lasted around 1.5 hours. We went at the end of October but the weather was great, the water in the harbour was calm and we all enjoyed it. The ship itself is quite big and I recommend getting to the boat about 30 mins before departure; they let you on about 15 mins before. Someone recommended to us to sit upstairs on the right hand side and I can recommend it as you get a better view from the right. There is a bar on board but it is very basic, with minimal snacks and drinks. I recommend buying drinks and snacks from the M&S opposite, or at one of the many shops. The commentary isn't great and it is in a few languages but it's adequate. The boats are very basic but the one we went on was clean enough and we didn't need luxury anyway. Our kids really liked looking at the private yachts and there were lots of things to keep their attention. The Captain Morgan trip is linked to one of the open top bus companies so if you buy one you get tickets for the other.
