A great view of the Grand Harbour and a very nice place to chill and reflect on the cities history, plenty of bench seating and a lovely planted area of colourful flowers make this area worth a visit.

With a view over the Grand Harbour, a family atmosphere and space to unwind, this is a must for those visitors who want a little time away from the streets, shops and museums. It can be visited in the heat of the day or the cooler evenings but it is always excellent.

When we went this time there was a wedding reception taking place on the lower level - so there was a birds eye view of the guests add to the wonderful backdrop of the Grand Harbour and the 3 Cities. It's an amazing view and the gardens are very popular with local people as well as tourists. There are plenty of seats both in sun and shade, and there's a little cafe for coffee or ice creams. There is now a new lift to go down to the harbour where the cruise ships dock. When we used the lift it was free to go down - but you had to pay 1 euro to come back up - well worth it when you see how high it is to climb though. During the day you can also get a boat over to the 3 Cities just over the road from the lift.

A mere 5 mins walk from Valletta Bus Station and mainstreet and free entry this place is a lovely area for a sit down either in sun or shade and appreciate the gorgeous views over Valletta Grand Harbour. Don't miss the cannon firing at 12 noon on the saluting battery just down the steps from the gardens. For only 1E donation per person you can go down to the saluting battery itself and witness the firing at close quarters if you wish. There are statues in the gardens paying tribute to heroes including Sir Winston Churchill - a nice touch. There is a cafe inside the gardens too and lots in the surrounding streets. Enjoy - we did!

Watch the world go by and the harbour go about its business. wonder who on earth can afford a private yacht the size of a cross channel ferry.

If you 'are no spring chicken', and who's knees are what they were, then be warned its a steep climb up to the gardens, or a panoramic life available. (ask a friendly native where that is).
