Visiting the Lascaris War Rooms in October 2012, my wife and I were taken through the rooms by an extremely knowledgeable guide, he knew the answers to questions that I and others in the group of 9 visitors asked him.
You start by entering via a small doorway in a tunnel, after paying you watch an excellent audio-visual show and then start the guided tour. The rooms show how basic things were during their use, cramped dimly lit and with poor ventilation.
Photos show the war rooms in use and are a fascinating insight into the work carried out there. Look at the board which would have shown the state of RAF squadrons based on Malta, then close your eyes - you can picture the sense of urgency, the mad scramble as pilots rushed to their aircraft to defend this small island.
