A few steps away from the main tourist strip is the warn and welcoming Capistrano. The food is excellent with a good selection of Maltese specialities. We were particularly impressed with the higjly personal service. We recommend Capistrano highly, and would definitely dine there again.

My wife and I returned to Capistrano after having a wonderful meal 2 days earlier. We were so impressed with the quality and presentation of the food that set it apart from the rest of the 5 dining experiences we had in Valletta that it was a very easy choice to make. Conrad our host promised that we would have a totally different experience as they were going to refurbish the restaurant over the next 2 days and yes, the restaurant decor was totally changed on our return.
We also shared the restaurant with a group from an upcoming wedding party so the restaurant had plenty of atmosphere. We also had tables filling and emptying during the night. Our meal was delicious, we had a little amuse Bouche from the house of cous cous with raisins and a little cheese toast followed by some home made grouper ravioli with sundried tomato pesto for a starter, nice textures and great flavours.
Main course for my wife was the swordfish that the chef changed as my wife doesn't eat olives and instead had a burre blanc suace that she loved. My wife said it was the best swordfish she had ever had (big call as we have travelled in Italy on previous occasions and eaten swordfish in Sicily!). I had the rabbit trio with a homemade rabbit sausage, Bon Bon and rabbit stuffed and rolled in prosciutto, very tasty! Dessert for my wife was their beautiful chocolate tart and I had the ricotta pudding. After dinner the chef came to our table to say hello and talk about the food, he is very passionate about his food and using only fresh ingredients for his menu. We were then given an aperitif of our choice from the house to finish off.
A great way to finish our stay in Malta!
Thanks again to Conrad and the
team for a great night.

We knew when the entree special of the day arrived at our table that this was a special restaurant. Scallop & prawn ravioli with a saffron sauce, with each piece of ravioli bedded on spinach and finished with a small amount of caviar. They were divine!
The main courses was beautifully presented. I had sea bass fillets stuffed with fresh medium sized prawns, spinach and tomatoes and my husband had veal escalopes with a lemon sauce and Parmesan cheese.
We finished off our best meal in Malta with "chocolate tart"- a pyramid of chocolate that is hard to describe but seemed like a cross between a thick chocolate mousse and a semi freddo. It came with lovely caramel ice cream & biscuit crumbs on the side. It was amazing! My husband had panacotta with mint jelly and a raspberry sorbet.
The chef was extremely happy with our appreciation of his meal and happily discussed the new menu planned for next week and the refitting of the restaurant. We left after booking a return visit for our last night after a week in Malta.
We have experienced meals in a number of more highly rated restaurants in Malta and are happy to say that our meal in Capistrano was the definitely the best!
