Description: The Pegasus at the Phoenicia Hotel Malta provides a relaxed atmosphere along with friendly, attentive staff who anticipates your every need. This is the perfect cocktail to ensure the best ending to the day. Open for dinner daily (seasonal closures may apply), our Executive chef Saul Halevi create everything in-house using primarily local produce for an innovative, modern cuisine together with daily fresh fish. Complimenting the menu is the distinctive wine list compiled by our in-house sommelier together with the Pegasus Restaurant's Maitre d'hotel Jean Paul. A private entrance to the restaurant from the main road assures privacy to the most discerning diners.

Aside from the very high standard of the food, it was the very kind and attentive service from the Manager that made this venue the ideal choice in which to celebrate a recent birthday. The Maltese house wine by the glass is also to be recommended.

What does a “perfect day” of eating out look like? If you think eating fish has to be boring or restrictive, think again. We simply love it. We love good food, we love a good conversation.

Marsaxlokk has always been our favourite fishing village. Most of Malta's fish supplies are caught by fishermen coming from this port. So it came as no surprise when many Fish Restaurants opened to meet the ever-increasing demand. However yesterday we steered away from this tiny village and headed towards the Phoenicia Hotel's Pegasus Restaurant in Valletta. We wanted somewhere quite with a lovely relaxing atmosphere, and this is what we got. By 10:00pm we had the dining area all to ourselves. A rare occasion, which we cherished.

Yesterday was a welcome return to this wonderful restaurant. It was one of our old time favourite places and we were both eager to find out if it was still up to standard. Seated at table, we immediately noticed that very little has changed. Staff is friendly and very attentive who anticipated our every move and complied with all our wishes without hesitation.

We started off with a complimentary cup of vegetable soup, simply divine. Fresh bread, baked in-house, was brought over to our table. White buns and black buns, the black ones were made using squid ink. Shortly after our starters arrived. Our friend Paul, on his first visit to Pegasus, ordered Risotto Scampi and Dijon Mustard. My wife preferred a plate of Wild Barley served with Ratatouille, Hazelnuts, Pistachios and fresh Rocket Pesto, whilst I fancied an Octopus Salad with Blue Potatoes, Mange Tout, Fennel, Orange Segments and Black Olive Powder. We each gave our helpings a thumbs-up verdict.

For our main course we had fish which we personally chose from the trolley. Two of us had Yellowfin Bream (Sargu) whilst Paul preferred a fresh Common Seabream (Pagella). We all agreed in having the fish oven steamed instead of grilled. These were served with small covered clay pots of roasted potatoes and steamed veggies. Ten out of ten for the three exquisitely fresh and fulfilling fish servings.

Two homemade lemon sorbets, two espressos, two bottles of water and half a bottle local Medina wine and the bill came to €50 each inclusive of tips.

So, if you’re looking for a serious upmarket restaurant, then Pegasus is an ideal choice.

We were not expecting a great deal of Valletta cuisine wise and staying at the Phoenicia we decided to use the in house Pegasus restaurant and were agreeably surprised. Our first dinner was so good that we tried it again when a friend flew in to join us. It is not cheap but by London standards was reasonable. There are obviously many lesser eateries in Valletta where you can eat well enough but if you like fine dining then The Pegasus is a place to go in Valletta.
