“Romantic and quirky with helpful staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2012

This is not somewhere to stay if you like pristine smart rooms like the Hilton. This is for those people who like unusual rooms right in the heart of a lovely historic capital and can put up with a little 'character'. The room was decorated in a very individual way and although the bathroom was a little pokey it was functional. The staff were really friendly - particularly the owner. They shut down the lift after 11pm at night as the entrance comes in to their restaurant (I told you it was quirky!) but Luciano gave us his mobile number and told us to phone him and he'd let us in whenever we wanted. True to his word he was there the one night we asked without question. It's not very suitable for disabled visitors because it is difficult to get a wheelchair in and out but that is pretty much true of most of Malta as we found!

I stayed at Valletta Boutique for four nights this month. The place is so special, so original and cosy that it is a pity that the cleaning is so poor (holes at the bottom sheet, the pilow smelt awful and several bites of mosquitoes ¿or fleas?). Apart from that, the rest at night is imposible due to the water pipes noise each time someone uses the toilet or takes a shower. A nightmare!!!!!
I really hope Luciano, the owner, will solve these problems because the place could be a real gem of an Accommodation.

Top notch stay for business reasons. I had a client coming over from the UK and I wanted to offer him somthing different and special. Since I am a regular at Luciano Restaurant, I asked the owner, Luciano, if he has any room for my client. Mr. Luciano took care of everything for me and really took care of my client. A big thank you to Luciano for the wonderful service.

Room Tip: Ask for Luciano and Cinzia his daughter

Excellent typical hotel in centre of la Valletta, near famous St. John Cathedral.
We had english style breakfast and room was very clean.
We also had dinner at very reasonable prices.
Only negative comment is about nearby church's clock.
Recommended.

A group of twelve of us stayed in the Valletta Boutique hotel for five nights. Personally, I fell in love with it. For once, the rooms actually resembled the photographs that we had seen earlier. I adored the decoration and personal touches, each room had its own character, was spacious and well equipped and antiques and nick-nacks were dotted around the hotel. Our room, with its four poster bed, long French windows and cast iron spiral staircase seemed straight out of A Room With a View. Luciano was gracious, generous and incredibly attentive to our needs, supplying us with fresh water for our excursions and treating us to coffees and cakes to compensate for the storm damage. (Yes, we coincided with one of the worst storms in Valletta in living memory, but had a wonderful time in spite of it).
The breakfasts were superb and taken on the terrace opposite the restaurant. On Sunday morning we were given platters of croissants, Maltese bread, cakes and pastries, and then during the week we could choose from the restaurant menu - bacon and eggs, Maltese bread, ham, cheese and tuna were very popular. We also had freshly squeezed orange juice and a lot of coffee - or hot chocolate. On our last night we had dinner and were really impressed with the pizzas, pasta and salads. The serving staff were extremely friendly and patient (it's not easy to attend to a big group of Spanish women)! and Luciano and Michelle were incredibly professional and attentive.
The only negative point is the noise of the Cathedral bells, which tolled every quarter of an hour and became increasingly out of tune as the week wore on. I found it difficult to sleep. We were also woken at six in the morning when the delivery lorries arrived and the town began to stir. I'm sure that this would have been less of a problem if we had slept with the windows closed and used the air con. We preferred the breeze from the open windows.

Some of the women in the group complained about the level of cleanliness in their rooms, but the majority of us were very happy.

I would definitely choose this hotel again.

Decided to enjoy the city of Valletta for a peaceful weekend break. We chose the Valletta boutique in merchants street. Being a family of 4, this was ideal for us because we all where in the same room split on 2 levels over looking the cathedral square. The room was larger then normal and very modern and clean. Breakfast was abundant and the atmosphere of actually having breakfast on the main square of the cathedral is unique. I highly recommend this hidden gem.

We stayed as a family of 4 (2 daughters aged 12 & 15) in the family room which is huge. A large double bed downstairs, a lovely spiral staircase & twin beds upstairs, exposed limestone walls. The room has shutters which you can close in the day to keep the sun out, & at night to keep the noise out (although this didn't actually bother us). Because of the traffic free city there was no traffic noise to wake you in the am & the cathedral bells seem to stop in the night. It was festa time when we stayed but didn't worry us as we watched the olympic opening ceremony & festa from the window at the same time. The aircon was great & included in the price. You are given a card with a certain amount of credit on it which was more than adequate for one nigt's stay.
We were a little confused when we arrived as there is no entrance or signs to say Valletta boutique & it appears you have to check in at the restaurant. We arrived early before check-in as our flight got in at 10.30 & were allowed to take our bags to the room before it was cleaned. they also gave us each a bottle of water. There is a small lift from the restaurant to the rooms. The bathroom is large with shower gel, shampoo, soap & there were plenty of towels for 4 of us.
If you don't want to take the lift into the middle of the restaurant there are stairs to a side door with a combination lock.On the way down you'll see lots of collectables - antique prams, gocarts, bikes, photos etc.
We had breakfast outside in the main square under umbrellas in what is the restaurant. You could choose any of the breakfast options from the restaurant menu including full english, panninis or Maltese flatbreads with tuna etc, you also get orange juice & a hot drink.
I would definately recommend this hotel for it's location in Valletta & for a lovely good value family room. My only reservation is that the restaurant seems to be the main business & you feel as though you are getting in the way as it's so busy. I would definately return if I was to stay in Valletta again

Room Tip: Ask for the room overlooking the cathedral & with the spiral staircase if you are a family of 4
