We enjoyed our stay very much. The staff was very willing and helpfull. Mr. Davor Bebe at the receptiin especially. The management could be a little more generous in reimbursing us for the breakfast we didn't have.

We came to Malta for the very first time, and really loved the island, not least because of the great hotel we chose. The Cumberland is perfectly located in the heart of Valletta with walking distance to all the restaurants, shops and sights.
But what made the stay so great was particularly the personnel at the Cumberland. We stayed for a full week and everybody was very friendly and helpful.
The breakfast is extraordinary, à la carte, and one of our highlights of each day. The staff in the restaurant served my son hot chocolate every morning without him having to ask for it, and he was "in heaven" as he put it himself!
All in all a hotel that I can wamly recommend and if we go back to Valletta we will certainly stay there again!

This is a great hotel and excellent value. We stayed for 3 nights.

The hotel is perfectly located on a nice quiet street and central for accessing all areas of Valletta. The hotel is recently refurbished and the room was a nice size with tea and coffee (espresso machine) as well as a mini bar. We also had a small terrace with table and chairs which was lovely.
There is a good selection for breakfast and everything is prepared to order, it was very nice.

We would definitely stay here again.

The staff were always polite and helpful.

Thank you for a great visit!

Boutique hotels often boast beautifully presented shared areas in their entrance halls, lounge areas and corridors. The Cumberland is no exception with exquisite furniture, art prints and lighting in both the public areas and the rooms. However, our stay was not without its faults. This review reveals accommodation of two halves which is a pity for a business that is relatively new.

The building is set on a pedestrianised street in the beautiful capital Valletta, the restaurant next door, Gun 64, acts as the venue for the exceptional breakfast that it is served from 7am.

We chose and paid extra for one of the best rooms, a Superior room with Terrace, it looked beautiful in the marketing information on the establishment’s website and was described as ‘serene and luxurious’. Unfortunately, some of the details were not up to scratch, and the room was neither serene or luxurious, more average.

Two of the walls had black mould on them just above the skirting board, I have attached photos to this review. A large damp stain that had been there for some time was streaked across the ceiling, black staining from this was also staining the top of the wall. Paint above the skirting by the bed was bubbling. The panelling to one wall was cracked and split from the ceiling to the floor. The plastic mirror sheet roughly glued to the bathroom door was coming away revealing the glue, a light bulb above the room door was broken so the entire wardrobe area and safety deposit box was in darkness. The planters dividing the terraces were filled with generic plastic hedging, the net curtains had black marks on them where they had been caught in the terrace door by a previous occupant, our bed sheets had a hole in the middle or them.

Of course, we spoke to the reception desk about the light-fitting and completed the form provided in the room to report it as we thought this would be a quick-fix, but, as the eye-roll and scowl from the receptionist indicated, nothing was done about this during our 5 day stay. So there was clearly no point bringing up the other obvious problems that where all in plain sight for anyone entering that room to see.

Clearly the management have knowledge that this room is below their usual standard as the mould, the damp staining, the cracked panelling have all been there for some time. It is unacceptable that they offered it and continue to offer it to paying guests.

Perhaps another guest will benefit from improvements being made once this review is published and read by the right people.

For the money paid, I would not recommend an overnight stay in this hotel without first a complete re-decoration of room 403 and a rethink of the use of plastic foliage in an otherwise beautiful establishment.

Room tip: Do not accept room 403 if offered
