My husband and I visited the San Angelo penthouse apartment in Valletta between 5th and 15th August 2012. It was very hot. We knew it would be, but with the reviews we had read, hoped this would not detract from our holiday. It certainly did not. A magnificent Pallazzo which has been sympathetically restored. The Penthouse, reached via a private lift, was well appointed, with an enviable view across Valletta Harbour from one of the two balconies available for use. We spent many a night watching the world go by with a bottle of wine and some local fayre. What a pity we have to share this experience with you! Our host was attentive and knowledgeable and pointed us in the direction of several local restaurants which really lived up to their names. We will certainly be returning.

My wife and I spent a week in this lovely old palazzo, the perfect complement to Malta's architectural charms. It has a certain old world grandeur and staying there one gets a better sense of Valletta's storied history. Franck was a wonderful host and ensured our every need was met. The location is outstanding and the rooms spacious and comfortable. I rather enjoyed morning coffees on the balcony, watching the dazzling morning sun lighting up the street. Highly recommended.

Staying in Palazzo Citta is a wonderful experience, right from the moment you enter into the wide, cool hall and from there into the sunlit internal courtyard. The furniture, art and ornaments have been carefully chosen (although are from very different styles and periods) and they work together beautifully.

The suites are very well thought out with the newer stud walls blending seamlessly (and sensitively) with the original stone. Everywhere are enjoyable details - rough old stone contrasting with the smooth rendered walls; a shower cubicle huddled in under its own stone arch; a translucent blue glass panel ornament placed in front of a small window; tiny LEDs lighting up the hall and stairs... I could go on and on!

From a practical point of view the Palazzo is in a perfect location easily accessible to anything you might want to do. It was a wonderful, calm refuge during the lively chaos of Notte Bianca and there are many excellent restaurants within a few minutes walk. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need to make breakfast, or more elaborate meals. My one tiny niggle is that the double bed in the suite we stayed in was quite small and might be a bit of a squeeze if you're a larger couple. But this is a minor thing and caused us no problems.

Getting to stay in such a beautiful building is a privilege and the price is excellent in comparison to other places which call themselves boutique hotels but which are nothing of the sort. Palazzo Citta is, I feel, the best accommodation in Valletta and I will definitely be back.

My husband and I stayed in the 'San Angelo' apartment in the Palazzo Citta building, for a week in April. We had a lovely stay. Waking up to the magic view of the grand harbour, Valletta, was absolute bliss, plus 3 nights during the week we were privileged to have fireworks displays on the harbour, which was more than amazing.
The apartment has been renovated to a high standard and has everything that you need. The building is in a good location, and though close to the centre of the city, it was very quiet. There is a little cafe just around the corner that cater to your Maltese baked macaroni needs, plus the coffee and traditional pastizzi are also very good and extremely reasonable.
The bus terminal is a short walk away and the buses will take you wherever you want to go in Malta, so there is really no need to rent a car.
Our host Frank is a lovely man and was very accommodating and helpful with local knowledge. We recommend a stay here for the ultimate Valletta experience.

We have just returned to the UK having spent 10 nights in this fabulous Penthouse Apartment. You will have to travel far and wide to find anything to compare to this accommodation and even further to find a more genial, knowledgeable and friendly host to compare with Franck. In addition to Franck a mention must go to Jennifer who kept the apartment in top class condition during our stay. The stunning views and the perfect location made it a very special first visit to Malta and with Franck also living in the Palazzetto one always had that added sense of security. Add to his his exceptional knowledge of the Island and you have the perfect combination to ensure a fantastic holiday. Staying in such a magnificent building with such history attached to it and in an apartment that had everything one could wish for will ensure that our memories of Malta will remain with us for some time to come - especially when returning to British Summer!

Was fantastic accomodation, got picked up at the airport at 1.30am even though the flight was 3 hours delayed and Franck met us at the apartments. He was really informative about the best places to shop and to eat and a mine of local information.
The apartment was beautiful and tranquil, situated in Valetta so everything was right on your doorstep and the welcome bottle of wine waiting for us was a really nice surprise.
Everything in the apartment was just lovely, much more relaxed and homely than a hotel, had a great feel and i do recommend it to anyone who wants to go to malta.

This was a lovely apartment, run by a nice gentleman, Franck, who is eager to ensure you enjoy your stay. The apartments are located in the old town of Valletta, 1 min walk to shops & restaurants and one of the main squares. The apartment building itself is lovely. We stayed in the apartment on the ground floor, which although the smallest, was already quite spacious! The room included a queen bed, plus a sofa to relax in front of the TV. The kitchen included everything you could need to prepare meals, if you decide to stay in. We also had a small table and chairs to sit in the courtyard area. Although this was a common area, we rarely saw anyone else. Frank ensures you are comfortable and have everything you need. A pick up service from the airport is included in the price. The only negative was that it could be a little noisy in the morning (not early) once the cleaning lady started. But we weren't there to sleep in late, so this was no a problem. I would definitley recommend the hotel and stay there again!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Palazzo Citta Valletta is a 16th century Palazzo located on the “High” side of Valletta, a much sought after location, on one of its principal streets. The house is one of the earliest to be built in the city when two smaller houses dating to around 1580 were joined and remodeled in 1622 in the understated Baroque style so typical of the buildings of that era in Malta. As is typical with most layouts of the time, the building revolves around a large central courtyard or patio. A door and hall large enough to take a coach and horses connects to the street. Cellars housed the stables, the ground floor the kitchens and the first floor the servants’ quarters. On the second floor called the “Piano Nobile” lived the gentry. Various important Maltese families have occupied the house and for a period of years it was also the headquarters of a leading commercial company. The house was locked up for numerous years until a careful and loving restoration was commenced some years ago under the direct supervision of the present owner. The result is a subtle mix of traditional and modern within an imposing structure albeit full of elegance and charm.Just one hundred meters from San Gwann Square the main square of Valletta, the Valletta fruit and vegetable market, food stores and 10 minutes from Malta's main bus terminal. The “Patron”’ of the house has opened the house to a few select guests wishing to relive the splendor of Valletta’s glorious past. A totally new concept in Maltese hospitality not unlike Riyadhs in Morocco, Paradores in Spain and Posadas in Portugal, a unique experience to share in the day to day living within an authentic 16/17th century “Maison de Ville”. Palazzo Valletta offers a high end lodging alternative to hotel accommodation in Malta, at very competitive rates.A total of only four suites ranging from a ground floor junior suite to a de luxe penthouse with panoramic views are grouped around the central patio, the heart of the house. Each suite comes with cotton bed linen, anti allergen pillows and mattress and silk bed covers, pure cotton towels, fluffy cotton bathrobes, cutting edge Italian design kitchen and appliances from a well known brand, Italian bright ceramic bathroom tiles.Daily maid serviced with regular change of towels, pillow cases and sheets. ... more   less
