If there's one thing I enjoy it's a nice waterfront, and this has all sorts of interesting features, including fortifications, historic dockyards, naval ships, fishing boats, and a delightful scruffy cove with summer shacks, just beside the Malta Experience show's building.

There's a lovely atmosphere walking along the waterfront by night. Most of the restaurants have indoor and outdoor seating. With a broad selection of menus from Asian to European to Maltese it caters for most tastes. It's not budget dining as the average price for starters is around 12 Euro and mains are roughly 20.

Where the cruise ship dock. Variety of restaurants with a mixture of Maltese and European.
Can be breezy sitting outside.

You can reach the waterfront by bus or on foot. We walked from Saint Julian's and it took a couple of hours with the occasional diversion. It is deceptively far from Valletta as you have to walk around various creeks and there is a considerable change of height from the city gates to the waterfront. At the waterfront your view takes in Manoel Island to your left (North) and Valletta itself to the right (South). The city is extremely picturesque although the view is slightly marred in places by unsympathetic, modern developments. The waterfront is well served by buses and it will take about 10 minutes from the Valletta bus terminal (e.g. on the number 12 or 13 buses). There are a number of restaurants along the waterfront but none stood out. It is such an iconic view of the city it would be a shame to miss it.

Take the time to look all around you and put your history head on, a lot of people have crossed this harbour in the last 1,000 years.
