Great experience throughout! Arrived early w/o booking - definitely recommended to go for table reservation if you expect to dine there later as the place fills up rapidly. (It only seats 35 after all.)

Cozy interior in a mix of nostalgic Italian, French & Maltese style.

Food was truly to kill for: the honeyed pork belly was the best we'd ever sampled and so were the quails on artichoke leaves. Very exquisite arrangement, and the desserts (we had lemon cheese cake & creme caramel) were top notch as well. Nice choice of wines, too.

Great service, friendly and attentive.

Pricing is definitely upmarket but very well worth it.

Lunch at Ambrosia. Third time!
Lunch, Cy and I; asparagus; soufflé; veal Milanese; quails; Isis, Chardonnay 2011 (met Christopher and Jane, British couple, working there, have a flat in Fontana, Gozo; left my bag there: to be returned in Gozo, thanks to Christopher.
Needless to say, book in advance - It's a small place (30 people max!) and well frequented!

Only went once to this restaurant, but it was a fab experience....the people are nice and they welcome you at the door. The place is not huge, but its not and issue for me.

The food was very creative and tasty, well presented, and went well with the wine they suggested. Guess they know one or two things about good cuisine :)

Its a bit and the high side, price wise, but worth the money.

Well done. Keep it up.

A family of 3, husband, aged 71, wife, aged 63 and son, aged 42, we asked the concierge at the Excelsior Hotel, where we were staying, to recommend the top restaurant serving authentic local Maltese cuisine in Valletta. He recommended three, Ambrosia being one of them. At 7pm the concierge booked a table for us for 7:30pm, and we were advised that we would have to finish dining by 9pm, which we accepted.

Shortly before 7:30pm, we arrived at the restaurant. The maître d' expressed surprise that there were three of us. "Your hotel booked a table for two. Sorry," she said, shrugged her shoulders and made it clear this was the end of the conversation. We suggested that perhaps a third chair could be found to put at the table for two. "No, we don't have another chair." This time, there wasn't even a "sorry".

The restaurant was empty — not a single customer was there.

We were there when the concierge booked the table for us, and he said nothing to suggest there were going to be only two of us — had he done so, we would have corrected him. But this is beside the (main) point.

We appreciate that things go wrong in catering sometimes. But then it is down to how the establishment handles the problem. In this case, this establishment — which knew we travelled half an hour to get to the restaurant, having made a reservation — made no attempt at all to remedy the situation. They might have said "really sorry we can't help you, we would love to help you if we could, but there is really nothing we can do for you tonight. However, we would be pleased to host you another night, could you possibly come back on Monday at 7:30pm, and we will hold our best table for you and give you a bottle of wine on the house? I know this is not ideal, but this is the best we can do unfortunately" and while we probably would not have been able to take them up on it, we would have appreciated the gesture and left in good spirits.

They might have said "really sorry we can't help you, but there is another really nice place just around the corner, here is how you get there".

Instead, what we got was "YOUR HOTEL booked a table for two" [it is YOUR fault] and "Sorry" (shrugs her shoulders) [your problem, not mine] — while all along, the restaurant was empty and, there were plenty of empty tables and plenty of space at the table for two for another chair.

We would have expected better from what was recommended to us as one of the best restaurants in Valletta. Perhaps the maître d' had an off night, and it is a great restaurant normally — you can judge from other reviews (which I have not read) — but we were not happy and we are not going back.

Instead, we went to Malata just around the corner (which the concierge had recommended as another one of the supposedly three best restaurants in Valletta) and had a really enjoyable experience — nice food and superb service — despite the fact we had no reservation.
