“Worth a look”
Reviewed May 31, 2013

There are a variety of things happening here but you wouldn't necessarily know about it unless you hunted down the info. The notice boards outside will let you know what is or will be on but probably not with exact dates, times, and/or prices. The most convenient option would be to check their website for details on performances. If you're concerned about the content of a performance (like age appropriateness or use of effects like strobe lighting, loud noises, and such), you can contact the box office after the first performance for details.

If you're not up for a performance, you can just go in for a look at what's in the gallery. When I went there was a relatively small collection of modern pieces -- not normally my thing but I was surprised to find a few I really liked. The building itself is quite interesting on the inside. I wish the exterior entrances were better marked. However, once inside it is fairly easy to find your way around. Things are marked in English and Maltese.

If you're in the area and have some time to kill, this is worth a quick look. I'm glad I stopped by and hope to get to at least one performance there before I leave Malta.

“St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity Malta”
Reviewed April 29, 2013

This is an amazing place, starting with its fairy tale stair case which draws the inquisitive visitor inside. When we were there there were 2 art exhibitions. There are also a range of cultural activities going on most days and a cafe in the basement. The whole building has been redesigned (from its previous defensive use) most imaginatively.

“Lovely building and wide variety of programs”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

Of course, your experience here will vary based on what exhibits or events are on, but this is a lovely, atmospheric facility and more than worth visiting just to see the way they've put the old fortress space to use. The building mixes virtually unchanged rugged elements and sleek ultramodern ones very harmoniously, which itself is an artistic accomplishment. When I was there, the main exhibits were video arts and photography.

There is no entrance fee for the exhibits but they do charge for performances.

The outside is not very well-marked, so if you see a long, curving flight of low stairs as a long entryway, go for it, it's probably the Center.
