Enjoyed a 10 night stay at The Palace Hotel in June 2014. On arrival we were greeted with a smile and cold drink by Andrew which was very welcome after travelling all night. The room we had booked was directly opposite the Church with the bells which ring every 15 minutes, as I am a light sleeper I knew I would find this disturbing. We were offered a choice of two rooms at opposite side of hotel, both absolutely fine. Decided to go for upgrade to 4th floor with sea view and balcony at a very reasonable additional cost. Both Thomas and Maol were helpful and patient in sorting this out. Room was clean with great view, large and airy. Shower cubicle and bath, shower drainage was slow besides this all worked fine. Strange musty - garlic (?) smell in room , however not intrusive. Bed/pillows so soft and comfortable - certainly helped sleep quality which was excellent. Quiet hotel, relaxing atmosphere. Booked a couple of excursions via the hotel, the female staff member who manages the 'cabservice' was very pleasant and helpful. Had a few snacks/drinks in Talk of Town bar which were always good quality and staff were always attentive, and friendly. Breakfasts served an array of hot and cold foods which were always absolutely fine. Yes serving of coffee was a bit hit and miss depending on who was serving, however no big issue, just ask. The only disappointment for us was the food at The Tabloid restaurant which was left in Bain Marie and was not fresh or hot and choice was not good. Also cold buffet but looked like it had been left out for some time. Delicious desserts however. Perhaps more themed nights with chef present cooking food- like the steak night .
Roof top pool not as big as I had expected, fantastic views, relaxing. Staff at pool bar looked disinterested, were slow and not helpful. In my view they 'let the side down', as all other staff were extremely helpful, friendly, informative, patient and professional. Special mention to Andrew who always greeted us with a smile and always happy to help if needed. I would recommend the Palace Hotel and should I return to Malta would stay again.
