“Staff make this hotel.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 22, 2014

Enjoyed a 10 night stay at The Palace Hotel in June 2014. On arrival we were greeted with a smile and cold drink by Andrew which was very welcome after travelling all night. The room we had booked was directly opposite the Church with the bells which ring every 15 minutes, as I am a light sleeper I knew I would find this disturbing. We were offered a choice of two rooms at opposite side of hotel, both absolutely fine. Decided to go for upgrade to 4th floor with sea view and balcony at a very reasonable additional cost. Both Thomas and Maol were helpful and patient in sorting this out. Room was clean with great view, large and airy. Shower cubicle and bath, shower drainage was slow besides this all worked fine. Strange musty - garlic (?) smell in room , however not intrusive. Bed/pillows so soft and comfortable - certainly helped sleep quality which was excellent. Quiet hotel, relaxing atmosphere. Booked a couple of excursions via the hotel, the female staff member who manages the 'cabservice' was very pleasant and helpful. Had a few snacks/drinks in Talk of Town bar which were always good quality and staff were always attentive, and friendly. Breakfasts served an array of hot and cold foods which were always absolutely fine. Yes serving of coffee was a bit hit and miss depending on who was serving, however no big issue, just ask. The only disappointment for us was the food at The Tabloid restaurant which was left in Bain Marie and was not fresh or hot and choice was not good. Also cold buffet but looked like it had been left out for some time. Delicious desserts however. Perhaps more themed nights with chef present cooking food- like the steak night .
Roof top pool not as big as I had expected, fantastic views, relaxing. Staff at pool bar looked disinterested, were slow and not helpful. In my view they 'let the side down', as all other staff were extremely helpful, friendly, informative, patient and professional. Special mention to Andrew who always greeted us with a smile and always happy to help if needed. I would recommend the Palace Hotel and should I return to Malta would stay again.

Loved the pool terrace, great food and cocktails, and nice rooms. Would definitely stay here again. We upgraded from 'comfort room' to 'deluxe' room as I didn't realise comfort rooms looked out into central atrium rather than to the outside - would recommend doing that for sure. The gym was small but good. Hotel had a very nice indoor pool as well as the rooftop pool.

Room Tip: Go for the deluxe room ... the 'comfort room' looks out into the atrium rather than outside...

The Palace hotel in Sliema is ideally situated near the seafront in three different directions. The reception staff and concierges are very welcoming and helpful, aided by Dorianne, the guest relations officer who offers expert advice in a kindly manner. My bedroom was spotless and large and well equipped contains two king sized beds. The bathroom was spacious.A welcome relief was the absence of a single occupancy supplement.I woke up in the morning to a wonderful seaview bathered in bright sunlight with a clear blue sky.An even more panoramic view was obtained from the roof top and pool area.Whilst many bus services were available nearby,I found the hotel s own Prestige cabs service very confortable and speedy!I highly recommend The Palace Hotel for its service and friendliness-the latter exemplified by the feeling that I was one of the family. This Hotel therfore justly deserves its 5 star status. No wonder the Hotel is so popular!

Room Tip: try to go for superior rooms if you re looking for views

My friend and I have just enjoyed a 3 night stay at The Palace Hotel. We were greeted at reception, made to feel welcome and offered a cold refreshing drink. As we were not due to check in for a few hours the staff offered us the options of leaving our cases in reception, using the hotel changing facilities for showers and enjoying the hotel facilities….which we did. There are three pools and a spa. Didn't see many young children around so not sure if it's a 'family' hotel. The roof top pool is a relaxing place to chill out at the end of the day, prior to dinner, I found the staff to be delightful. We were shown to our room and given a welcome fruit platter and bottle of red wine. The 'comfort' room was comfortable and adequate. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. Reception staff were always polite and helpful (Thank you Andrew) Breakfast was plentiful and fresh. Coffee is disappointing. We didn't eat any other meals in the hotel as we wanted to explore the area. We found the hotel to be in a great location for public transport, buses, boats and ferries etc. Easy to get to/from the waterfront but may be difficult if you have problems walking uphill. Negative….There was an unpleasant odour on the first floor, the staff explained a pipe had leaked, the carpet had been cleaned but was not dry. Overall would use this hotel again. Great service, very pleasant staff, great location for us.

I found the last few reviews of this hotel seeming to describe somewhere I didn't recognise.
Stayed 5 nights in a large, well-equipped airy room with a small balcony equipped with table and chairs that looked over the rooftops to the sea.
Found staff most pleasant and helpful, arranging taxis, giving directions etc. Booked direct with hotel online and Ms Fenech who corresponded with me gave excellent service.
Hotel well-located above Sliema on one side and St Julian's on the other, 5 mins walk down to Valetta ferry.
Experience has taught me not to bother with hotel eating in most locations, there is generally a higher standard at better prices outside, so only ate poolside snacks and one dinner in the rooftop Asian restaurant, which was absolutely first class, food and service (and fabulous views, looking both ways across the island.)
5 star may be slightly pushing it compared with say the Oriental in Bangkok or the Metropole in Moscow where I've been recently but all in all an excellent place to stay in Malta.

Okay, I,ll start with good points, the view from our room was amazing, looking over Sliema waterfront to Valletta( we paid €25 euros a day to get this as we initially had an atrium view room:-0) The rooftop pool is great, free wi-fi (as there should be) and err mm it had a big bed. Points it fell down on, poor conveyance of whats what on arrival, breakfast was very average with tea and coffee service hit or miss depending on who's on, the bedroom had a bizarre semi open plan toilet ? I really don't want to here my other half doing what nature intended, never come across this before, not good, TV was dire with only 2 English channels BBC world news and CNN on an old style television. Now having moaned about the above would I go back ? The answer is probably yes, ideal location(although the hill from sliema ferry area a bit of a hike) awesome view and balcony, cleaner done well, the flavoured water is a good idea but put a separate used glass area out please,so to some up, getting there but still lots to do, and don't call yourself a 5 star, that's an affront to real 5 star hotels, your a 3+.

Room Tip: A Valletta view room with balcony is a must.
