“Fantastic staff”
Reviewed May 11, 2014

We stayed at The Palace for a week at Easter and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was very comfortable and we were well looked after by Marissa who made up our room each day to a very high standard. The front desk staff were extremely helpful too, especially Paul and Dorianne. Mark, too, was so cheerful every time we saw him in the dining room.
We especially enjoyed our breakfasts here and the one evening we had a meal up on the top floor restaurant 'Tempt Asian'. The underground parking facility was a boon at 2 Euros per day, it was great to be able to park securely.
If there were any downsides to our stay here, they are very minor niggles and would not put us off returning; mainly - simply the lack of boiled eggs being on offer for breakfast and bottled water provided free only on the first night. Without doubt The Palace's biggest asset is it's staff!!

Being a single traveller I am always wary of the single room stuck at the back of the hotel - but not this one as they don't have them and didn't even pay a single supplement! I did contact the hotel for a price but found going through a travel agent in England was cheaper and got great deal on a superior room. These are on the higher floors, mine was 5th, and so have a better view of the rooftops and sea/harbour. Lovely big rooms, english plug sockets, although my one issue is there is a fixed hairdryer in the bathroom with mirror, but no mirror in the main part of the bedroom and having to plug in my hair straightners behind the bedhead and cannot see what I was doing! I was on the side of the hotel where the church is but the bells didn't bother me especially as the beds were so comfy. The pool area looks great and has plenty of beds and cover, but it was quite windy at times being high up that it was hard to read my book! Pool looks great but far too cold, so used the indoor one for a quick dip.
Apart from breakfast which was fine, I only ate in the hotel once, going for the curry night which was good value as included wine and water at 25 euros.
Staff are very friendly and like to talk to you. Would definately use this hotel again as felt very safe.

Room Tip: I was on the side overlooking the entrance and my balcony had the sun from first thing in morning to...

The Palace is a modern purpose built concrete structure located at a high point in Sliema perhaps 300 yards from two seafronts down manageable hills one of which gives on to various ferries including across to Valetta. A one way street on the frontage which can be fairly busy at times with cars - possibly as a cut through on this peninsula. There is a church close by with quarter and hour bell ringing though we didn’t work out the chimes which have a different bell for the quarters and another for the hours. I’m not sure what happened through the night. Suffice to say that although I had a couple of partly sleepless nights these were caused by a heavy cold and I wasn’t disturbed by church noise (or the road which had gone quiet).
Internally maintained to a good standard with the bedroom floor tiled.
Our bedroom was on the fourth floor overlooking the frontage with a small balcony with a view towards Valetta. The room was a good size with adequate storage space and the usual (large) TV, desk and chairs, safe, fridge etc.
A curious design feature was that part of the solid wall between the bedroom and bathroom had a gap at ceiling height. (not an issue).
I flicked the TV channels which covered various languages and there was a pay to view section but can’t otherwise comment as we didn’t watch anything or investigate further.

Headline prices for breakfasts are relatively expensive but there is an excellent choice – help yourself English style (with eggs fried and omelettes being made in view), and Contintental style including cereals, fruit, yoghurts, jams various breads etc.etc and served tea / coffee with top ups as required.
We had three dinners in the ground floor Tabloid restaurant which were of a good standard. Multiple courses with a wide choice on a hot / cold buffet style – perhaps never quite as good as freshly cooked meals to order but probably as good as it gets for this style.
We used an indoor pool (once) and the rooftop outdoor pool (several times). This roof top infinity pool is unheated (perfect for us being hardy) and reserved for adults / older children, for swimming only – which is sensible. Loungers, seating available.
We didn’t use the spa facilities.

A good mixed age range clientele during our visit (last week in April) but no children being term time presumably apart from a couple of couples with pre school tots.

Our first visit to Malta so I made use of the hotel airport pick up (and return) facility which worked very well. This took any worry / hassle out of the visit though I’m sure there could be cheaper ways.

Staff were friendly professional helpful and generally smiling. The concierge smoothed our exits and entry in to the hotel.

This is a reasonably expensive hotel. Was it worth it / would we stay again ?? Definitely - yes and yes -- if we saw the right price at the right time.

Just returned from a very enjoyable stay at the Palace Hotel. Great hotel, excellent breakfast, good location if a bit hilly, but be careful of the bells! The church next door rings it's bells every 15 minutes, yes, every 15 minutes even during the night. In fact all through the night. Apparently a throwback to when the church was the centre of Sliema village and the farmworkers needed to know the time.....the farms have long gone but ringing the bells remains. Despite that, a great holiday. The hotel beds are very comfortable. Malta is really very beautiful with lots to see and do. The Maltese people are charming and kind. I'll be back

Room Tip: Rooms on the South side are quieter, but the view is better on the North side.

Our first stay in the Palace Hotel and hopefully not our last! Stayed for 8 nights bed and breakfast at the end of April. Very comfortable, clean with welcoming staff. Good location for exploring. Only slight disturbance from the church bells next door but it didn't spoil our relaxation as we soon got used to them! Food good and an excellent breakfast choice. Waiting staff very helpful. I would definitely recommend.

Room Tip: If a light sleeper ask for a comfort room as these face internally, away from the church bells.
