Such nice hosts! We arrived after 9pm and were greeted by a sweet Welcoming notice on the easel just inside the door. The place seems to have been recently remodeled with a modern feel, yet still retaining many of the original features. Very clever! We stayed in the top penthouse for the first night - the Blue Room. Quite magical to open the door and climb the last set of stairs to the newly created top floor. The layout was so clever! Good touches were the blackout type curtains on the large expanse of glass on both sides of the room - really useful to keep those rays at bay until you are ready! Great comfy bed and amazingly luxy pillows. Two Pillows! We were comfortable as "two"; there was room (single bed) for three and at a pinch, another person could sleep on the sofa, though as it was open plan, the "cool" factor for a couple would be compromised! The balcony's on both sides afforded great views. Quite a lovely view in the night and then again the next morning!
We pre-booked for two nights, but not together and the second night was in the Orange Room - for a different experience! This was a cleverly designed smaller space with a Sony music system - tho' I couldn't seem to work out how to get the USB to function and play our own music. The bathroom is divided off with a huge wall of glass and a pull down screen which separates it from the living/bedroom area. It was a clever way to bring natural light into the bathroom, but I would make the blind just a little less transparent....
For both kitchens, I would have items like washing up liquid and cloths as standard, as well as basic condiments and maybe some oils for cooking. The facilities are fantastic and the look is great, but not everyone wanting to use an "apart-hotel' wants to buy all the above, or go from place to place with their own basics.
Like I said, the hosts were really nice and accommodating. I am DEFINITELY returning here when I come back to St Julian. It is in a brilliant location and the hosts have really made a great effort to do something different here. We had our Maltese friends come in for a peek and they were astounded. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
