“It is well worth the money”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 28, 2013

The hotel has only got 2 stars but is well worth the money.
The room has TV, telephone, ceilingfan and a private bathroom.
If you choose a room towards the sea you got a marvellous view.
The best of all you have a busstop not far from the hotel.
The staff is friendly and helpful.

I stayed in Europa for 10 nights in July 2013. Booked the room via Booking.com of the non-refundable cancellation type and now I do not regret it. The hotel is a 2-star and it advertises everything on the service offered. My room was on the first floor 102 with a perfect sea view just what I asked for. It was also cleaned on daily basis, sheets changed, with additional sorting out of the clothes, etc. The wardrobe was also neat and equipped with about 15 hangs, although I had the room with single occupancy.
The position of Europa Hotel Sliema is central and it has access to 2 near bus-stops (Chalete just near the front door). It is connected to all Malta including direct bus transfer X2 to the airport, if needed. St. Julians is close for half an hour walk by the seaside or 5-minute walk to the shopping centre The Point or to the Sliema Ferries.
Finally, the stuff was very helpful with everything I asked for including the fridge facilities as there was not any available in the rooms. If I go there again, I would certainly choose it for a second stay.

Dirty rooms, one of the pillows was without cover and dirty like hell!! No more white but BROWN and full of cigarette burns, so gross!!! I had to go three times at the reception before they'll change it! Poor furniture, poor bathroom, no a/c but only noisy fans. Never Again!!
I stayed in several budget places, even the cheapest motels ever, but never found dirty like at the Europa Hotel!!!!

Room Tip: don't choose the Europa Hotel!!!!

Good solution for those who dont want to spend so much money, however dosen't have many a/c just an air vent that don't help so much in the hot summer days of Malta. Location in front of the sea in Sliema but 30 min walking from the night center of St. Julians. Staff not so friendly.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a view to the see.

The location is the only good thing of this hotel. The rooms are dirty, with cockroaches, crazy hot and really poor furnished. The last day I've spent there I had to change to room because the ceiling of the bathroom collapsed due to mold.

The staff were always helpful and friendly. Any issues were happily resolved. Remember that this is a budget hotel, so don't expect too much. The room seemed clean enough - we only found two cockroaches, both dead fortunately. We paid the extra for the seaside views. This was a blessing and a curse. The sunrises were spectacular and we didn't get the afternoon sun. However, at night the Sliema promenade was noisy, especially the bar downstairs. This may not be a problem for most people who may actually prefer this. The location was excellent, but then again, any hotel along the Tower Road in Sliema enjoyed an excellent location. Close to many great restaurants and supermarkets (Scott's on Amery Street and Tower Supermarket in the opposite direction on Tower Road, which was next door to a laundry). You'll need the laundry because this service was not provided at this hotel. The bus stop (Chalet) was only a short and pleasant walk away. Wifi is available at E2.50 per hour, but if you have your own device then wander down to L'Aroma (a highly recommended cafe/restaurant) where you pay E1.50 for a half pint and enjoy their free wifi. Otherwise, continue walking to St. Ann's Square towards the Sliema ferries side for free public wifi. The room did not have air con, but it did have a ceiling fan. Opening the sliding glass door to the balcony allowed the cooling sea breeze to blow into the room, while you enjoyed a relaxing stroll along the promenade across the road. If the state of your accommodation doesn't bother you but the location does and money is a big issue, then give this place a try. On the other hand, if you want to remember Malta with positive memories, are easily irritated by your accommodation and you can afford an upgrade, then look elsewhere. I'm usually accustomed to better accommodation but usually paying much more than I did.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms have great views from the balcony, but can be noisy up until about midnight. Later on...

Malta was a beautifully warm, welcoming, interesting holiday destination!

Arrived early and greeted pleasantly and checked-in. Room basic with ceiling fan. Beds had sheet and blanket. All very clean. Only lacked a bin - but I put our rubbish in a plastic bag and it was taken away! Room cleaned & fresh towels if desired everyday (including Sunday). Bathroom good and clean. Staff were welcoming. Lift to top floors.

Room view - courtyard and into another room of same hotel, so we didn't open our curtains! But we didn't pay for a sea view so didn't expect one - we spent minimal time in the room as Malta is such a lovely island to explore.

Location - brilliantly placed in Sliema (but not too close to bars and restaurants to be noisy!). 10-15 minute walk to St Julian's along the coastline for restaurants and bars. Beach directly in front of hotel - gorgeous rocks to laze on and dive off to snorkel a little. Only 10 minute walk to Marsamxett harbour side of Sliema where we got the ferry to Valletta - bus was cheaper but ferry more pleasant (cooler and less likelihood of being pick-pocketed). Buses from near hotel regularly to a variety of destinations.

Travel from airport - take the X2 bus from the airport and get off at 'Ghadir' or 'Chalet' stop (easy to know what's coming next as electronic signs on bus of next stop!).

Breakfast - adequate. Different breads, cheese, ham, selection of tea, coffee, orange juice, spreads, cornflakes/muesli, cucumber?, tomato?. Oh, and some really nice sponge cake!

Nice, budget hotel. Not a hostel but not flashy. I enjoyed my stay in Malta :)

Room Tip: If you are only sleeping in the room (with so much to do in Malta this isn't unrealistic) don...
