When choosing this hotel we were a bit concerned by several poor reviews. But others suggested it was much improved following refurbishment. This certainly appears to be the case. We paid for a balcony and asked for a room on a high floor. We were on the 6th floor with a superb view over the harbour towards Valletta. The ferries and water taxis to Valletta, harbour trip boats and island tour buses all set off adjacent to the hotel. This was both convenient and provided lots of visual interest. The hotel faces South so the balcony was in sun afternoon and evening. The room was also close to the restaurant on the 8th floor with the same view of Valletta. Some reviews crticised breakfast but while this was basic continental it was perfectly adequate. Would certainly stay there again.

Room Tip: A room with a balcony (on the front) is worth paying for and a 'high' floor gives the best v...

I stayed at this hotel in April ( we came as a student group) and it was very bad. Staff is unfriendly ( apart from one of them) and didnt really seem to care when we reported there was no more water ( lying about the reason why there was no water, saying it was the government who decided to stop running water when it was actually due to some works happening in front of the hotel). There were water problems for a good part of the stay ( the group I traveled with was staying on different floors and none of us had running water) and one morning we woke up to find a leek in the bathroom. Breakfast is OK but not amazing. The lady who works in the morning in the breakfast room is rude, she doesnt greet you and ask you coldly for your " breakfast tickets". I have to say there is a gorgeous view on the bay.
It is well located though, just facing the bay, in the city center of Sliema.

We start off booked into one of the sister hotels which is rated very high, however due to water issues we were moved here. From just the ratings we weren't keen but once we saw the place ( I think most ratings are before it was modernised) it was great.

The lady at the front desk was probably the most hopeful person we have met in this part of the world. Not to mention they saw we were having a few beers on our deck, so brought a fridge up to keep them cold, all without even a word.

We will defiantly be booking to stay here again. Thanks for the great time

we arrived at the Maria Hotel on Fri 25th May 2012, myself and my fiancee found the hotel very clean and modern, boutique room was lovely, and our sea view was out of this world.
all staff were very friendly, housekeeping came in every day and did an excellent job, towels changed every day too. area was very nice, we hired a car in Slima for one day, cost us 25 euros and we travelled the whole island, and what a gorgeous island it is. the hotel booked us a taxi which was punctual, infact it was a mini bus just for the two of us. id not hesitate about returning there again, hotel has a 3 star rating, of which its deserted. can't wait to return room 708 were missing you already.

Just returned from Malta, 7 nights at the Marina. The hotel seems to have changed owners recently and our experience was generally positive. I had requested a seafront, high floor by e- mail through the booking.com site... plus a follow up re: a fridge in the room. The hotel had no record of the emails but the receptionist, Taylor, was apologetic and offered us an upgrade to superior room. If you are trying to contact hotel, then e-mail them direct.
The room was a good size and had a large balcony overlooking the harbour. Furnishings are basic, bed and linen excellent.... sheets and towels changed daily. I couldn't fault the house keeping standard.
Well done to the staff.
The hotel is still only 2-3 star, bathrooms need a re-furb, and the 'toiletries' comprised of a couple of bars of soap. With a little extra money spent here the hotel could easily raise their game.
Air con didn't work properly, but we didn't complain as evenings were reasonably cool.
We did have to put up with roadworks outside as they are re-laying the pavements but this should now be complete by now and obviously the hotel have no control over this.
Reception staff were pleasant and friendly, well the younger ones anyway, the older were a bit 'stiff'. The night reception, Alan, was always a happy smiling face.
Summing up, the seaview rooms are the ones to go for, I'm not so sure about inner rooms,I think they might be dingy. I would say that there has been a big improvement since earlier reviews, so a good budget hotel, with an excellent , although slightly noisy, location.

Room Tip: Check that rooftop deck is operational.... It wasn't at time of review.
