I have been living in Malta for 2 years and the spa resort was one of the worst experience of service that i got here. The staff was almost aggressive and it was everything except relaxing and nice. And the spa itself is old and not very clean.

We had the opportunity to upgrade into a spa room. Excellent room and very much enjoyed the facilities (hot tub especially!). However suspect room is quite expensive if booked ahead of arrival.
Bar area nice and not too large although entertainment potential is limited (piano + singer). Personally prefer bar / sitting area in Fortina hotel next door which is much nicer.
the 'Taste' restaraunt has a good menu choice and the food for us was very good.
Hotel adjacent Tigne Point shopping Mall which has some nice shops and cafes. Lots of restaraunts nearby.

Room Tip: Prefer garden facing rooms as quieter but still have nice view. Suspect that the rooms in the 40+ ra...

We stayed in the 5 star hotel which adjoins the 4 star hotel and shares many facilities. Some other reviewers must have stayed at the 4 star hotel as our room was very spacious. The bed was massive. Definitely worthwhile paying extra for a waterfront view of Valletta. The balcony has the benefit of the sun all day long. The outdoor swimming pool was fine and the gym was quite large if a bit old school in terms of equipment. Location is great - easy access to buses / shops etc.
My major gripe was with the half board. I paid €30 per day per person for the week - €420 for which you could dine in any of their 6 restaurants. However in the Indian & Italian restaurants the maximum you could have spent was €22 so far from getting a discount you end up paying extra. As a resident you can book these restaurants anyway and elect not to have 3 courses. That said the quality of food in all the restaurants was high.
We had complimentary Thalasso treatment available but this was 5 minutes of pathetic exercises instead of the stated 15 minutes followed by 10 minutes of free time in the water. We didn't repeat the option. On the other hand the complimentary harbour cruise is highly recommended.

Room Tip: Definitely worthwhile paying extra for a waterfront view of Valletta

The Fortina Spa Resort Hotel classes itself as 5 star. Sadly in my opinion it is not.
The room was spacious and had a sea view but this was actually a harbour view and was probably more interesting as a result. This meant it was quite noisy as the road ran underneath the balconies. Needed to keep the Balcony door shut to keep out the noise.
The bathroom facilities were good and clean with separate bath and shower facilities.
Everything serviced every day.
The bed was on the firm side a good size but with thin pillows.
What really let the room down was the furniture and carpeting. This was worn and somewhat jaded. The coffee table had a loose leg. Not what you expect for 5 star.
Room housekeeping service however was very good every day.
The TV service was poor with an old CRT type TV with limited access to channels and no access to channels clearly available in the public bars of the hotel. Many channels were not tuned at all. At this sort of level you expect a flat screen TV with Satellite channels available.
Some of the public areas had worn carpets and a somewhat jaded appearance.
We were on a B&B tariff and the breakfast was excellent with a huge range of food to meet all tastes and levels of consumption. Ate a couple of evening meals in the hotel restaurants and generally these meals were good and not outrageously priced. Other local restaurants nearby gave a range of good cuisine at reasonable prices.
The Spa area was a big disappointment and we did not avail ourselves of any of these facilities during our stay. The outside pool areas were fairly cramped and overlooked on all sides by the Hotel buildings with no view to the outside at all. We did not use these facilities.
Sliema is very built up and busy most of the day. There are local shops and bars along the front on both sides of the town. Nearby, in fact just alongside the Hotel was a good modern shopping mall.
The buses ran past the front of the hotel very frequently and there was a ferry service to Valletta every 30 minutes from early in the morning to about 18.30 hours ( winter timetable).
The good weather we enjoyed during our stay did make up for the shortcomings in the accomodation as we could be away all day. Car hire was easily arranged by reception at the Hotel at reasonable cost.
Would I stay again, I would need to think about it!

Room Tip: Choose a Superior "Sea View" room on at least the 5 floor.

I have just recently returned from holidaying in Malta and stayed for 5 nights at the Fortina Spa Resort. I am a 'reader' more than a 'writer' when it comes to tripadvisor but I simply had to write a review based on this hotel. I think I will find it next to impossible to find a hotel like this ever again! On arriving at the Fortina Spa Resort, my partner and I were seated at the reception to discuss our stay with the warm, inviting lady at reception. We had booked our stay around a month in advance and had chosen the cheapest option in terms of our room. However, the receptionist informed us that our room had been upgraded to one of the Spa Rooms on the second floor. Although we were expecting a high standard as it is a five star hotel, the Fortina Spa Resort did not dissapoint!!! We were absolutely blown away by the room! We had a beautiful balcony overlooking the fabulous lit up pool area, There was a lit up jacuzzi bath, steam room, hydrofusion body massaging unit-the list was endless! The bed was huge! Behind the bed was a gorgeous jacuzzi for two people, exactly as shown on the hotel's website. We dined in both Can Thai and Taste Restaurant during our stay which were both fabulous! Breakfast each morning (in Taste Restaurant) was out of this world! Nothing was too much to ask. Pancakes/poached eggs etc could be freshly ordered each morning. There were a wide variety of cheese boards, hot breakfast, fruit platters, fresh bread etc available. The Spa is outstanding. We each had massages and the therapists were both incredibly professional. I would recommend the body scrubs too! All of the staff were beyond lovely at the Fortina Spa. Everyone greeted us as they passed us and were willing to offer help at any time. The shopping in Malta isn't great but the main shopping centre is a stones throw away from the hotel. Fortina Spa is located in a perfect location. Its situated on the waterfront and is fabulous at nighttime especially. It is within walking distance from bus stops and all of the Maltese tours are available on the waterfront too. St. Julian's bustling night life is only a quick taxi journey away too! Beside the 'Point' shopping centre are two restaurants which are Malta's hidden gems in my opinion! I would definitely recommend visiting both of them-La Cucina del Sole and The Chophouse. (The chophouse isn't meat only, for any vegetarians!!) If I was forced to critique one thing about the hotel, it would probably be the indoor swimming pool. It could do with a little jazzing up. The lighting isn't great but as my partner pointed out, it probably isn't used very often as the weather in Malta is mainly hot and the outside swimming pools are top-class! Well done Fortina Spa Resort! Keep up the great work!!! Thank you, we had a fantastic time and could have stayed in your hotel for the whole vacation!

Room Tip: Spa Rooms are amazing!!!!!

A strange double-hotel 4*\5* - one pretending to be two really..
There were a few things I could moan about it not really being 5 star however..
The spa treatments were fabulous, the restaurant food excellent, the bed comfortable and the sun shone- what's not to like!?!

We have just returned from our first trip to Malta and we have really enjoyed our stay. We stayed in the 4 star bit of the Fortina and were very happy with our room, the choice of restaurants and the staff. We were on the 8 th floor so had great views of the garden and the sea , but not Valetta. The lift was a bit quick to close but the guests soon learnt to hold the button and move sharp! The location of the Hotel is brilliant, there is access to local buses which is 2.60 euro for a day ticket and from Sliema you can get a bus to most places direct including the Ferry to Gozo. We hired a car but without the TomTom on the iPhone we would never have got to most places, Malta and Gozo are not big on road signs. Malta is not just for the retired it is also a good place to go for those who are quite fit and like explore.
