The Park Hotel is a 3-star hotel in a good location in a nice part of Malta. If you keep that in mind, you'll be fine, but if you expect 4-stars and all that that implies you will be disappointed.
The decor of the hotel, both in public areas and in the rooms was dated. It opened 20 years ago and the style refects that, for example the curtains appear original.
Our room, sheets and towels were clean.
The room was a decent size and we had a glimpse of the sea from our window.
The bathroom has been recently re-decorated (stylish modern beige tiles on the walls, the white bath looks new, as are the toilet and sink, and the counter is solid oak (although starting to be ruined by the water that gets splashed on it), except for some reason they left in the original (yellowing) hairdryers.
The room heating (we came in winter) worked fine.
The shower was hot and powerful whenever we used it, which are essential for a good shower.
There was plenty of hanging space for clothes in the closet and storage on the shelves.
Most of the staff were helpful and efficient, and usually (although of course with some exceptions) quite knowledgeable about things like bus routes and ferry times.
The location in Sliema is good: a minute from the seafront, with a good (local) restaurant around the corner, and 10 minutes' walk down a street filled with shops to the Sliema waterfront with ferries to Valletta, sightseeing cruises, and other big-name stores and cafes and restaurants facing the waterfront. It is about a half hour bus ride from Valletta and the bus stop is a few minutes' walk down the street from the hotel. We thought this was perfect even at the end of an evening and would not have wanted to stay further away from Valletta.
Our beds were the usual twins pushed together, and very uncomfortable. They were the worst part of our stay.
The bathroom was quite small - two people was a bit of a crowd and because of this, I could not imagine wanting to have a soak in the bathtub. (The bathtub was a normal size, it's just that the bathroom was small--not a place to relax)
As is fairly common in hotel bathrooms there wasn't enough space for wet towels, and since they want us to re-use them for environmental reasons, it would be good to have at least a second towel bar so they could actually dry out.
Tea and coffee are not provided in the rooms, only the kettles and cups.
There is a charge of 7 euros to use the safe deposit box in your room.
The "high speed internet" worked ok, but there is always a lag of a couple of seconds whenever you do something (nowadays, a second is an eternity for computers!) and there is a charge (although fairly cheap) to use it. They are 2 computers off to one corner of the lobby, which sometimes means waiting for somebody to get off.
The restaurant (where the breakfast buffet is) could use some changes, particularly with the yellow curtains on the street-side windows. It doesn't help that they need ironing and are sagging where they haven't been adjusted properly.
The roof-top outdoor pool was closed for the winter, but the indoor pool in the lower level was open, however the chlorine smell was overpowering--strong enough to come up to the lobby at times if the door was left open. We didn't use it, but we did see some others do.
The "gym" is a few exercise machines near the pool and hot tub, which I think wouldn't be very nice for either the swimmers or the exercisers.
Breakfast was a full English, but without any potatoes, and it never changed. There were sausages, bacon, toast, baked beans, eggs, several other choices of sliced bread and rolls with jam and butter and cheese, 3 kinds of cereal, some fruits, tea, coffee, and hot chocolate (from a machine) and watery fruit juices (also from a machine). None of the drinks were very good.
For us, the hotel was absolutely fine, and we would recommend it to anyone else who is happy with a 3-star hotel. Of all of the minuses, the only one that really mattered was the beds. I didn't like the breakfast, but that's personal taste--others were quite happy to pile it on. The other minuses were, at worst, only slightly annoying or cosmetic. We found it clean and decent and all that we expected from a hotel and we'd happily stay there again.
