“Out dated old fashioned grubby hotel”
Reviewed October 26, 2013

Probably one of the least nice hotels I've ever stayed in - how it manages a 4* star rating I cannot imagine.

Plus points:
Nice clean pool on roof
Bed sheets clean
Restaurant staff very nice and jolly.

Minus points:
Reception staff disinterested and unwelcoming
Lobby very outdated, scruffy and in desperate need of a deep clean
Rooms old fashioned, tv crackly with no decipherable channels
Lack of plug sockets - if you have the kettle on, you can't have the radio
Hairdryer in bathroom completely useless
Pillows - I have never slept on anything like these - large square cases half filled with large lumps of foam
Bathroom ancient, loo struggled to flush, floor flooded when showering
Sunbeds on roof terrace need replacing, most had holes / tears
Balcony - more a railed shelf with hardly room for one chair
Street noise was loud from very early morning
Breakfast was appalling, 'bottom of the box' cheap cornflakes, cheap coffee and juice

I could go on, but you get the gist of things. If there is nowhere else but hereto stay, don't.

Staff were warm & friendly. The rooms are adequate I was a solo traveller but I had a double room, the beds are comfortable but the pillows were pathetic.the televisions are really outdated with very poor picture quality. The hotel has a lovely foyer with lots of comfy sofa's & chairs,& the indoor pool & gym look excellent. breakfast is what you make it, something for everybody. the hotel rooms need modernising

Room Tip: higher floors would reduce traffic noise

Do not know where to start, the hotel i really worn down and boring all Malta was booked out the week I stayed here, otherwise I would have moved hotels.
Staff is sometimes very helpful, sometimes rude and giving the impression that customers bother them. Breakfast is really dull and uninspiring, ate there twice and then went out for breakie. first room was the smallest possible, after a few day i got a better room which was adequate I guess. Shower is leaking so whole bathroom floor is flooded every time you shower. WiFi is really expensive and works so so (EUR25 for 7 days)
got to se the locals almost strangling a woman and the police response, very entertaining at 2am

Room Tip: stay in another hotel

It is very old fashioned and worn. Comfortable beds but the big, soft Maltese pillows are a struggle to get used to. The televisions in the rooms were ancient - only Sky News and Al-Jazeera in English but the Sky one was really poor quality with fuzzy lines and 'snow'. The plates for the main course were usually cold whilst the dessert plates were often hot. When they brought out glasses for the fruit juice in a morning they were also hot but, instead of putting the tray underneath the tray already there, they put them on the top so everyone was trying to prise glasses out from underneath. The staff were friendly - it's saving grace. Someone said in an earlier revue "Beware room 101" - well also avoid 102 and 103 as there is a boiler thing outside that makes a noise whilst the kitchen (directly below) is in use - off at night thankfully. There was also a very very loud noise one night which turned out to be the emergency generator (power cut - twice in one week). Not sure where it was located but obviously very near to those 3 rooms so we hardly slept. The view from those rooms is a wall with a few badly cared for plants in pots outside. Most of the balconies are tiny and the chairs were really badly discoloured from age - you wouldn't take them off a skip they were so bad!! Definitely not a 4 star hotel. I'm sure there must have been some rooms better than ours but the tour group of 50 people, of which we were part, all agreed that the hotel was in need of modernisation.

Room Tip: Go higher up with a partial sea view.

I arrived on my own to receive a welcoming smile and helpful information about the room/hotel from the reception staff. This was a good start but on the way to my room I did wonder what I would find after reading some of the other reviews.
I was happy to find, a nice clean and a comfortable bedroom, spotless bathroom and the same when I arrived back each night, clean towels, bed made, all areas cleaned and restocked tea, coffee, whitener and sugar.
Breakfast was very very good and what I was expecting, eggs, bacon, bean, mushroom, fried bread and so on, ceral, yogurt with different types of toppings, different types of breads and rolls with butter and jam or marmalade, ham, chesses, salad and so on. The orange juice and coffee was not so good but it is out of a machine so it was expected. Toasting bread was a little wait but that was becasue of the people-toasting 5/6 slices and then only eating 2, well that says more about the people than the machine or hotel.
Cost nothing to be polite and if you're nice to the staff then they will be nice back, the children in the hotel seem to have more respect for others than their parents and grandparents. Some people are just not good in the mornings.lol.
I don’t trust the star system anywhere these days as some 5 stars I’ve stayed in have been terrible and some 2 stars have been the great.

This is a nice hotel and I would stay here again.

These days I do expect a good standard from every hotel regardless of the star system. If you want a place to sleep, wash, breakfast, travel around all day and then go out at night and party then it’s a good hotel. People need to do more background checks on the places they book. I have family in Malta and they know a lot about the hotels so the one thing they tell me the more money you pay the better the hotel.
Staying at the Bayview next week and that has some bad reviews so I'll keep you posted. I'll also get more info like bus times, where you can go, how to get there, how much and so on. I hope it will help others.

Room Tip: Room at the back of the hotel are good - no road noise.

Hotel was adequate and I wouldn't not recommend but it is in need of a bit of tlc. Everything is just a bit tired but having said that the staff were great nothing too much trouble for them. The location is very central and easy to get around on the buses. About 15 minutes from airport by car.

This was booked as part of a package. The entrance lobby was pleasantly cool and chars and tables adequate. The reception staff pleasant we got into our room even though it was hours before we should have(1400 hrs) The lifts are a bit of a lottery they go where they want to and worse when busy! Our room was on second floor so used stairs sometimes. The room was dated but cleaned every day and linen changed too. The pillows were just bags of foam chips but found 2 proper ones in wardrobe. Small TV but only get BBC choice so nothing to watch there then! Small fridge, big enough for 2l water bottle wine milk etc. Had our own teabags, had to buy fresh milk as powdered was supplied.air con worked well. beds good but 2 singles on wheels so gap appeared between sometimes. Balcony small but room for two and little table there. Handy for a smoke! View of the Flats across the road but hotel is up a side street so none have proper sea views. Breakfast was chaotic as most of the guests seem to think the food may run out in five minutes! Food nice plenty of cheese, ham, fruit etc tea and coffee fine, cooked breakfast good even the scrambled egg. The queue for the toaster a bit frantic sometimes! Did not eat here at other times. Nothing on in the Lounge bar in evenings. Went to the Preluna up the road a bit, 13th floor lounge bar +entertainment! They were actually painting a bit while we were there. Had broken plug on TV, replaced. Cracked floor tile not replaced. Loo brush disgusting, (but reported) but bathroom and shower ok. Noisy at night as road works had left a trench at the end of road covered with a steel sheet! I would say a good 3 star in our experience.
