“Excellent hotel at a great price in an awesome location”
Reviewed November 20, 2012

Beautifully designed hotel in a good location in Sliema. The indoor pool was well maintained and the gym was well equipped. The air-conditioning in the room was dysfunctional and the temperature was almost the same. Breakfast at Copperfields, located in the hotel was very good for a reasonable price. All in all, excellent hotel for a great price.

Room Tip: Almost all rooms are quite good. Junior suites are the best value for money.

We stayed a week in the Victoria hotel. Don't forget to bring your own soap and other toiletries as none will be supplied (at least not to us). Breakfast is mediocre (coffee and juices are awful). Avoid lunch and dinner (they are the same menu - fish was still raw - both for lunch and dinner).
Room was clean and fixing the AC took only two days.
Don't ask the hotel staff for instructions on the busses (no use).
Location is okay, a five minute walk from the seafront (and a nice sandwich place right on the seafront).

Great little hotel if you look past some of the worn aspects - fantastic, attentive service, especially from Charles Portelli and Stuart on the desk, and Freddy, Joe and Martin in the Penny Black. New lift is a great improvement and Copperfield Restaurant is comfortable and spacious with a great atmosphere. I still hate having to use machines for tea/coffee juices at breakfast as in London we don't even see these in the most basic of hotels, but the food is well presented with a good choice and very fresh. Shame the a la carte has gone for the evenings, but that is probably my age showing.... Charles Abela and Robert work wonders keeping everything in order despite the rather too few staff and always make me feel welcome.

Great pools shared with The Palace, and the Spa is superb.

Nice room, great new 7 foot bed and much improved duvet and pillows. Lovely view out over the sea. Towels cheap and nasty, very threadbare and no amenity pack - in London this is an absolute minimum even in a 1star and shows a degree of mean-ness on the part of the management and not the very hard-working staff - Charles Portelli has gone to great lengths to make my stay comfortable on my 40-plus visits.

Cleanliness good, but the carpet on the 6th floor is as old as the hotel and in dire need of replacement and the tv is out of the ark. Shame the mini-bar is missing - a fridge to keep chilled water is de rigeur in anything but a cheap bed-and-breakfast now. The enlarged shop is a good idea but tacky - if you want bottles of coke and bags of crisps then there are plenty of local shops that stock these and more; this just lowers the tone of what could be a great hotel again. This is more 2 star than 4, pity.

Come on management - spend some money and update! The little touches make all the difference between the customer having a good stay, and a customer returning time and time again.

Would I stay again? Yes, if only for the fantastic staff that have become friends over the 15 years I have been visiting, so come on Claire, think UP to a standard, not DOWN to a price and get working - you could have a real gem again, or run the risk of losing the lot through disinterest which would be very sad.

Room Tip: upper floors, superior rooms with a balcony.

Second stay at this hotel, previous was two years ago, there have been some cost cutting by the new owners, but it is the wonderful reception staff that make a stay at this old fashioned hotel special. Rooms are a bit of hit and miss, I had to request a room change 2 times, 3 rd room perfect, still did not detract from my stay. Nothing is too much trouble here. Breakfast has been a target of new change still enough here to keep you going until lunch. Also you share facilities with the palace hotel, roof top pool with magnificent views over malta. I have travelled the world and never experienced such wonderful service.

Room Tip: If you not happy just let reception know, if there are rooms available they will try and help you

It's important to know that the Victoria hotel is nearest to Sliema's harbour with
lots of facilities toward every destination.
In the country side there's a service cheaper bus very comfortable where you
can discovery wonderful landscapes.
As a matter of fact, you can see an history site as soon as the St.Paul's Cave and
the first city capital of Malta.
Although after many years, I think that it's very wise and educational learning new
experience of life for your knowledge.
The island of Malta is unique...the history...the morals...the traditions...the tastes
this is the magic world of Malta.
I'm looking forward to seeing you soon!

The photos on the hotel website together with its 4 star rating set up high expectations. However we were disappointed with the standard of decor, furnishings and amenities in our room. Also the mini bar didn't work and was unstocked. This was a real shame as almost all other aspects were great: the staff were extremely polite and helpful, standard of cleanliness was excellent and the swimming pools were lovely. The hotel is very conveniently located - within easy reach of bus stops and the Sliema Ferry. Breakfast had a good selection of cold and hot options. Coffee was from a push button machine - I would expect to have fresh filter coffee at a 4 star hotel, and similarly the diluted fruit juices were not great. We took advantage of a 'Triple Treat' meal deal that was offered for €65 per person (excluding drinks) - this entitled us to a meal in each of the three main restaurants (two of which were part of the adjoining 5 star Palace Hotel). This was excellent value and the meals at TemptAsian and The Tabloid were superb. Overall we were comfortable and once we'd adjusted our expectations to those we'd expect in a 3 star hotel we enjoyed our stay.

Really liked staying in the Victoria. Comfortable, clean and most importantly very friendly service.

Room needed a bit of a refresh but fine.

Hairdryer was missing but a portable one was provided. However we were charged a deposit for the adaptor for the hair dryer which was a bit cheeky.

Internet is available in the foyer area for free but the charge for use in the rooms is so expensive I bet nobody ever uses it.

I'd recommend the Internet charges are greatly reduced - ideally to zero but even a small charge would likely make the hotel more profit than the prohibitive 25 euro per day they currently charge.
