“A great hotel”
Reviewed April 27, 2012

We have recently spent a holiday at the Victoria Hotel in Sliema. It was truely excellent. The food was outstanding and the staff went out of their way to help. Good location away from the seafront with easy access to the harbour, St Julian's Bay and transport.

We will be returning later in the year and are very much looking forward to our visit.

Room Tip: High floors have better views

We are currently staying at the Victoria Hotel courtesy of an Adventures Abroad tour we are on. Adventures Abroad usually put us up in 3 star hotels; the Victoria is suppose to be a 4 star! we were delighted. The reception area is lovely, the staff friendly, the buffet breakfast has something for everyone, the bar area is grand. However, once past all that and in order to get to our room on the 6th floor, only one elevator is working. This is a 7 story hotel that has been full every night we've been here so far - 4 nights with one more to go. Plus there's a 3 story (at least) underground parking garage that's serviced by this one working elevator, the second one being refurbished altho during the past 4 days noone has been working on it. Need we tell you the stairwell is crowded with guests trying to get to and from their rooms. The elevator always stops on the 4th floor - no one is ever there; we're assuming it's the resident ghost playing games!

Finally we got to our room, it too is lovely, adequately large enough; our balcony overlooks the city with views of the sea. The bathroom is fine as well. Once we got over the appearance on day one, however, we found out that the electric outlets didn't work, the hairdryer didn't work, there was no soap, no shampoo provided. We called reception and a maintenance man showed up promptly. He checked out the situation, disappeared then reappeared with a bottle of shampoo for us and said he'd be back. The next day, two maintenance men showed up, changed fuses and were still trying to figure out why the outlets wouldn't work when we left for the day. Upon our return, all was fixed. And remained fixed for the next three days.

Upon returning from our ventures on day 4 we returned to our room so looking for a hot shower only to find there was no bath mat provided and of course, no shampoo (haven't seen any since day one). The hairdryer is not working again; neither are the electric outlets. It's rather disconcerting to know that something is amiss with the electricity in this place - but at least we know where the stairwells are should we need to quickly evacuate!

Excellent location in a quiet street close to the sea front buses and shops. The reception staff are outstanding

The room and bathroom were of a good size and there were TV , tea making and refrigerators for guest use.

The breakfast was good but the staff were sometimes overwhelmed by the presure of numbers and there could be delays in being seated.; some food items ran out and took some time to replace.

The lifts are inadequate for the guest numbers but are in the process of replacement. Guests unable to use the stairs might wait some time for lift service.

Overall a very enjoyable stay in a very reasonably priced hotel

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the Palace Hotel quadrangle may be noisy if dance/reception functions are in progr...

Dear esteemed guest,

We would like to thank you for your comments on Tripadvisor and we are mostly glad that you had a nice stay at The Victoria Hotel.

Kindly note that we have taken note of your comments regarding the breakfast service and lift service, and we have discussed them in our weekly operations meeting in order to improve our product.

As you well stated the hotel is upgrading the guest elevators to two latest technology ones, having a larger capacity.

We look forward to host you back with us at The Victoria Hotel in the near future.

Best regards,

I stayed at the Victoria for one week from March 15th. I was very impressed with the decor of the entrance hall and all staff I came into contact with were first-class. My room was one of the best I have stayed in although the view even with a balcony was a little disappointing but you don't stay in your room all day. I did miss not having a working TV which I understand you had to pay to watch films but there was no remote to watch anything else either - I have always been used to watching TV and relaxing after a day's sightseeing but here again you don't come on holiday to watch TV. Breakfast was outstanding - so much variety and very well prepared - I could not have wished for more.

Unfortunately this may be my last visit to Malta as my husband s health has not been too good and on my return to the UK he was taken into hospital for major surgery. has just been so holiday plans are on hold for some time to come. If I ever do get the chance to return I will most certainly return to the Victoria Hotel and would recommend it strongly to all my friends.

Very good location - close to restaurants, bars, shops, bus stops, ferries & boat trips. Staff friendly (although a bit over-zealous clearing dishes at breakfast!). Some of rooms have been recently refurbished & some haven't. The lifts are currently being upgraded, which will be a big improvement (currently 2 lifts, each holding only 4 people). The Victoria Hotel is connected to the Palace Hotel via the 7th floor and they share the same facilities (indoor & outdoor pools & gym). [HINT - to avoid lift queues, use the Palace Hotel lifts via 7th floor, which are much bigger!). The breakfast is OK but gets quite "samey" after a few days.

Room Tip: Good view from higher floors. Balconies are either North or South facing - the former don't get...

Stayed 2 nights and it's a lovely hotel all round. All the staff are very friendly and helpful always glad to assist with whatever asked. Location not bad, at the end of the street you'll find yourself at the sea front. I could not find a fault with this hotel. Enjoy!

My first trip to Malta, and to the Victoria Hotel. Both certainly deserve repeat visits. The front desk (reception) staff come in for special top honors; they are exceptionally helpful and go well beyond the accepted standards for customer service. I had left some clothes in my room that I noticed only after checkout and return home. Despite their initial reply to my letter requesting their assistance in locating the items, they apologized for not having seen such items, but then followed up on their own, and a month later (to the day) in fact did locate the missing items, and informed me that "as a gesture of good will" will have them mailed to me at their expense. Such first class customer service is consistent with their general atmosphere of providing a wonderful experience, and being a model hotel to be emulated.
