“Disappointing”
Reviewed September 2, 2013

I have taken many HOHO tours during my travels and would not recommend this one especially for a cruise port. Although the company has several lines they do not respect their own schedules, therefore, wastes our limited time. We waited (along dozens of other individuals) over 1.5 hours in the 35+ degree heat for a bus which got filled up quickly leaving many behind. I would recommend a private tour where you can discover beautiful Malta which is a hidden gem. Also beware, at the duty free shop when embarking the ship at the port, a sales clerk was duplicating credit cards when purchasing items.

“Good, reliable service but poor buses”
Reviewed September 1, 2013

We bought a two day ticket, good value at €28. It is difficult to locate the precise departure point on Valletta waterfront because of an absence of signs, and time-keeping at the start of the day was not very special; Red, Blue or Green route - nobody seemed to know! The rest of the service itself was very good: buses arrived and left on time at the various hop-on/off points. The buses themselves are filthy dirty: seats are missing seat pads, seat belts don't work, seats are deeply soiled, floors are dirt encrusted - ghastly. One driver wore flip-flops and another was smoking while driving; others were very pleasant and helpful.

“Malta in a day!!”
Reviewed August 31, 2013

Our cruise stopped in Malta for a day and instead of selecting the expensive excursions offered by the ship, we elected to take the hop on hop off bus. It took us all over Malta and we saw all the sights and more for a fraction of the cost if we purchased the tour from the ship. I definitely recommend the hop on hop off bus as the best way to see Malta

“Ok for a quick look at Malta”
Reviewed August 30, 2013

We only had a few hours in Malta as our cruise ship left mid-afternoon. Initially we were going to use the Pony and cart tours around the town near the port, however the bus company had set themselves up to attract passengers off the ship. When we explained we were going to use the ponies the price offered was €10.00 instead of the € 15.00 shown on the ticket.
We used two of the circuits, as our bus changed routes after the first trip. For the short time available on Malta this was probably the best way to get an overall impression, but to achieve this we didn’t get off at any of the stops. There was also the risk of a delay in catching the next bus back to the port had we disembarked.
By staying on the bus we were able to stay on the top deck. I would imagine that the experience would not be too good on the inside downstairs. We were given a set of ear buds to plug into the small console at each seat. There was a running commentary selectable is a few languages.
True the bus was of average quality however for our purpose it served us Ok.

“Not too bad”
Reviewed August 28, 2013 via mobile

City Sightseeing is a pretty good way ofsseeing the island from the open top of their big red buses. There are 3 routes around the island (red, blue and green) and your ticket allows you to hol on/off at any point on any route. There are negatives such as waiting times between routes or pick ups and the commentary through the earphones could be a little better and fuller in content but on the plus side, I recently stayed in Marfa which is right on the tipof the island opposite Gozo and Comino. The buses didn't come near my hotel as it was at a quiter part of the island but City Sightseeing sent hourly shuttles to the hotel to collect guest and take them to the nearest collection point. They would also bring you back to your hotel after your island tour. Amazingly, this service was completely free and complimentary! Also, there are some good savings to be made on the bus/boat combinations with Captain Morgan Cruises and there is a free harbour cruise with your bus ticket which is actually very good! This is a good service for taking in lots of the sights in a short space of time and definitely beats sitting on an Arriva bus which is quite an experience in itself!
