“Great day out”
Reviewed July 1, 2013

We bought a day trip to Gozo, Comino and the Blue Lagoon on the Fernandes with Captain Morgan Cruises through Deal today costing 25 euro each. This was a bargain price as it is advertised for 50 euro as usual price. We used it on our holiday last week.

We arrived at Sliema at 09.10 expecting a 0930 departure but people were still arriving and the boat left at about 10. We were lucky to get seats on the top deck, but there were lots of people who had to sit on mats, not a problem as the weather was hot and sunny, but maybe not very comfortable.

The water was a little choppy once we got outside the harbour and the sea spay soaked people on the lower deck, it was a chilly breeze and I needed my cardigans or my towel wrapped round meto ward off the cool wind. We were served a filled meat and salad roll just after we left. Get a seat on the left hand side for views on the way out, right side for the way home.

The trip included some commentary on local sights, history and beaches as we passed through, beautiful to see the coastline from the water, lovely photo opportunities.

We travelled first to Gozo, stopping just outside the lovely harbour and were given an opportunity to swim from the boat, due to strong currents, the stop was cut short and we headed straight for the blue lagoon. If you are expecting an isolated stretch of beautiful water here, be prepared it will be overcrowded with visiting boats and ferries! It is very beautiful, water is clear and so blue, fish swim all round the boats, particularly after being fed handfuls of leftovers by crew, turning the water into fish soup! Not good for the fish and i believe it upsets the balance in the sea but I suppose it is all done for tourist entertainment purposes.

We were served lunch on the boat included in the price, this included a selection of hot food, fish and steak, mixed salads with bread, fresh fruit and wine or juice. The meal was nice and there was plenty to go around. Other drinks are available to purchase at the bar, they did not serve any diet drinks.

Speed boat rides were being sold on board for an additional 10 euro per person, around the caves in Comino. We decided against this trip.

The toilets were down very steep steps and you need to be firm on foot to get around, getting down the ladder into the water to swim was an experience! It was worth it for the swim in the lovely clear waters.

There was ample time to swim from the boat, or walk onto Comino. It was very hot and we managed to burn despite using a good factor sunscreen, there is shade, but this is very popular.

We were offered ice creams by Shaun the ice cream boat, who pulled along side before we left.

A really nice day out in a lovely location, this trip won't be great for everyone, children would be very bored.

“Terrible service”
Reviewed June 24, 2013 via mobile

Would try to go with one of the other companies if you can - terrible service. Examples - waited unnecessarily in lines for ages, transport lists not updated with the right passengers so almost had to pay twice and etc.

“Worth a trip”
Reviewed June 11, 2013

We have done this trip two years ago and we got another free voucher off Malta Direct so it nice for a relaxing 80 minute ride around the harbours. If you do the trip try to get a seat on the right side of the boat MOST of the commentary is directed to places on the right hand side. The smaller Luzzu boats can get deeper into the harbours because they are more manouverable than the larger Europa 2.

“Be wary and ask about the time spent on the boat”
Reviewed June 11, 2013

Both me and my partner booked the full day Comino cruise, with the intention of spending a long time at the Blue Lagoon. We paid 25 Euro's each which included transport from the hotel. All in all, the price seemed very reasonable initially, and the sales advisor at St Georges Park hotel was friendly and advised us we would get a significant amount of time at the Blue Lagoon.
This is where it all went pear shaped, when we got up the next morning to take the cruise. As advised, we were downstairs and on the transport by half past 8 in the morning, arriving at the boat for ten to nine. Not bad, however the seating on the Fernandes II boat was extremely limited, and both ourselves and the majority of passengers were left sitting on blue mats on the floor. The boat didnt leave until 10am, and we didnt get to the blue lagoon until half past 1.
As instructed, we were told to return to the boat by half past 3 (so much for a good amount of time at the blue lagoon) and returned to Sliema at half past 5. In total we spent almost 7 hours on a boat, just for a 2 hour visit to the blue lagoon. None of this was mentioned by the sales adviser, and when we complained to the manager, she became very rude and told us "relax, you are on holiday", point blank refusing to aknowledge our issue. After speaking to other tourist reps, they told us we should have had at least 3 hours at Blue lagoon. After complaining at the head office, and also raising the issue that our backs were killing us after being cooped up on the floor for an extremely large amount of time, we were compensated with 2 free city sightseeing passes (again, be wary of these, there are 3 different routes and the pass doesn't cover them all, each route cost 15 euros). All in all we both felt very ripped off from Captain Morgan, and even when asking sales staff at a different hotel they refused to mention how long you would get at the blue lagoon. They also failed to mention that the cruise will take an extended time due to them packing on more customers to drop them off as part of other cruises. Nice of them to mention that it will be part cruise, part taxi.
I would strongly recommend avoiding this cruise, (my back hurt for 2 days after that trip) and if you are taking young children (value for the whole family the booklet and website say) its really not worth your time. An all week bus pass and the ferry cost are way cheaper, and will allow you a lot more time at the blue lagoon which is absolutely breathtaking by the way.

The only upside to the cruise was the captian, who couldnt be blamed for the mis-selling of the cruise and did provide entertaining commentary along the way.

“Pricey but good.”
Reviewed June 10, 2013

I had a harbor cruise - Which I loved, it was very informative and enjoyable (sit upstairs on the right) I also booked an all dayer around the island and Comino for 45 Euro, I booked the harbor cruise at the same time and thought it wouldn't of hurt them to give it for free like most of the other companies but alas I paid 16 Euros for it. The mini bus was 40 mins late to pick me up from my hotel and lunch was vile. Other than that I absolutely loved it and it was worth the wait, Comino and the blue lagoon are beautiful, when you arrive you are offered another 20min boat trip into some caves, this was another 10 Euros and was worth it. I would deff do it. You get 3 hours in Comino which I did feel was too long.

It was a good day out.
