We bought a day trip to Gozo, Comino and the Blue Lagoon on the Fernandes with Captain Morgan Cruises through Deal today costing 25 euro each. This was a bargain price as it is advertised for 50 euro as usual price. We used it on our holiday last week.
We arrived at Sliema at 09.10 expecting a 0930 departure but people were still arriving and the boat left at about 10. We were lucky to get seats on the top deck, but there were lots of people who had to sit on mats, not a problem as the weather was hot and sunny, but maybe not very comfortable.
The water was a little choppy once we got outside the harbour and the sea spay soaked people on the lower deck, it was a chilly breeze and I needed my cardigans or my towel wrapped round meto ward off the cool wind. We were served a filled meat and salad roll just after we left. Get a seat on the left hand side for views on the way out, right side for the way home.
The trip included some commentary on local sights, history and beaches as we passed through, beautiful to see the coastline from the water, lovely photo opportunities.
We travelled first to Gozo, stopping just outside the lovely harbour and were given an opportunity to swim from the boat, due to strong currents, the stop was cut short and we headed straight for the blue lagoon. If you are expecting an isolated stretch of beautiful water here, be prepared it will be overcrowded with visiting boats and ferries! It is very beautiful, water is clear and so blue, fish swim all round the boats, particularly after being fed handfuls of leftovers by crew, turning the water into fish soup! Not good for the fish and i believe it upsets the balance in the sea but I suppose it is all done for tourist entertainment purposes.
We were served lunch on the boat included in the price, this included a selection of hot food, fish and steak, mixed salads with bread, fresh fruit and wine or juice. The meal was nice and there was plenty to go around. Other drinks are available to purchase at the bar, they did not serve any diet drinks.
Speed boat rides were being sold on board for an additional 10 euro per person, around the caves in Comino. We decided against this trip.
The toilets were down very steep steps and you need to be firm on foot to get around, getting down the ladder into the water to swim was an experience! It was worth it for the swim in the lovely clear waters.
There was ample time to swim from the boat, or walk onto Comino. It was very hot and we managed to burn despite using a good factor sunscreen, there is shade, but this is very popular.
We were offered ice creams by Shaun the ice cream boat, who pulled along side before we left.
A really nice day out in a lovely location, this trip won't be great for everyone, children would be very bored.
