We were pleasantly surprised with our room, it was on the first floor, spacious and a very large comfy bed.Bathroom was clean and we had no problems at all.The balcony felt a bit scary as it was so small and the safety rail wasnt very high but the veiw was fantastic. I loved looking out the window in the mornings. It was a good area to see the many shops, so many were British too.I loved the little bars further down the road overlooking the harbour, and the local Maltese loved them too, they are friendly people, tolerant of British people, and they shout a lot after an evening out, not too different to a weekend here after the pubs shut.I would try the garden rooms next time I stay there, as street noise was a problem for me.
The restaurants were all lovely, wonderful food, kind waiters, the indian was our favourite. The breakfast took some getting used to.But the fruit and youghurt were best, and coffee and bread roll.So cross I never took my free spa treatment, but the free harbour cruise was excellent, Mdina was interesting and Valletta surprisingly old and full of character sophisticated eateries and pubs made it a place I`d love to return to.

Room Tip: higher up is better for street noise avoidance.

Dear Sirs,
Further to your email, please find below a written account of our dissatisfaction with the accommodation and facilities offered at the Fortina Hotel, Sliema, Malta during our recent stay
This so-called 4* hotel was and is an absolute disgrace, and many other guests had the same opinion during our stay there. It would not get a 2* B&B rating if it were in the UK
The supposedly hot food in the La Vallette restaurant was consistently either lukewarm or actually cold, obviously having been prepared long before the guest sittings and not sufficiently re-heated, and then was served on cold, wet plates! Although we fully expected to allow for non-British menu choices in a hotel on a Mediterranean island, the only meal which actually came close to offering a taste of home was the breakfast (of which the eggs were the only hot item). Lunch and dinner menu choices were a bland mixture of cuisines from unknown areas, seemingly emanating from the chef’s stagnant imagination
The bedroom was cramped and poorly serviced, with the maids not even straightening the under-sheets on the beds. The plastic laminate floor covering in the bedroom was peeling at the edges, as was the frayed carpet in the hallway outside our room (303) The air conditioning in our room did not work because the control knob was missing, and the balcony sliding door was very difficult to open/close to offer any ventilation. There was a permanent damp and musty smell in the bathroom, probably coming from a leaking pipe behind the bath panel. There was only one chair for two occupants to use, meaning that one of us had to try to sit propped up on the bed which aggravated our back pain. There were no UK television channels to choose from on the limited TV menu – yet another example of how this hotel fails to cater for its main clientele ….. British guests
Other generally poor service elements, like the dis-interested and off-hand reception staff and the mainly eastern European restaurant table clearers (pleasant enough, but with little or no English) are worth mentioning if only to add background shades to this dismal 10 night hell-iday picture
We will actively seek ways to dissuade anybody from booking a stay at this awful establishment, and a copy of this letter will be sent to the Malta Tourism Authority; Visit Malta; Trip Advisor; and any other organisation that has any influence on encouraging holidaymakers to book decent accommodation on this beautiful island …….. anywhere but the un-Fortina-te hotel

just returned from 7 days half board at the hotel Fortina over Christmas with my husband and cousins. We paid nearly £1680 for two for half board. Hotel corridors were very shabby, our double room was so small, we could not get our clothes into the wardrobe and lived out of our suitcase. The carpet in the room was never cleaned in the week and our bathroom was not very clean. The toilet smelt and I asked at reception to have our bathroom cleaned properly. This was not done so I caught the maid and asked for disinfectant and cleaned it myself. We sat at the same table for breakfast every morning and the floor was never cleaned, dirty windows in the dining room.. To be told by some couples that they had paid £900 for a 10 day holiday with a large room compared to our £1680 for 7 days did not go down very well. On the whole very poor value for the money we paid.. Lovely view though

I enjoyed a lovely week at this hotel recently but found that there could be improvements to make the stay a more memorable one. I found some of the staff indifferent- but the chambermaid that serviced my room was superb and really looked after me well. The hotel was clean, and in a fabulous position on the front with superb views over to Valletta. There were continual problems of toilets not working and difficulty using the key card system and broken hairdryers. Breakfast was OK - I would have liked fresh juice rather than squash and a better selection of breads and rolls, but there was plenty of hot breakfast choices. Evening meals were either in the dinning room where there was plenty of choice and the meals were lovely, of you could eat in alternative restaurants within the complex. Momos was absolutely awful - food was cool and very small portions which were not well presented. The Continental Italian restaurant was great!
The indoor swimming pool was shabby and the lifts in one part of the building were rickety and I did not feel safe in these. There was one lift being replaced.
Bedrooms were of different standards - I paid for an upgrade to a superior front room which was enormous and had a balcony which had the sun on it most of the day and amazing views.
There were tea and coffee making facilities in the room and an empty fridge - which was very useful. The position of the hotel was superb for walking, shopping, or taking a local bus around to other parts of the island.

Room Tip: ask for a high room over looking the front if you want good views

My review is about the the restaurant that is part of the Hotel Fortina. We had light lunch at the The Terrace and as from the beginning it was TERRIBLE. My mistake is that we didnt just got up and left. Apart that was a rip off eg a bottle of still water is Euro 4.10 (and not only that), many more happened.
1 The chef was outside smoking when we went in and also when we went out. I hope he washed his hands before he prepared our food.
2. One of the waitresses doesnt even understand you what we were trying to say.
3. Menu is not well explained, My daughter ordered something that she ended up removing 2 out of 3 ingredients that she had.
4. Very small portions for the overpriced food.
5. Nobody, Nobody ever came up to see if everything was ok or not but a table next to us were treated with much much more attention.
6.Although we dont smoke we had to because the people outside who were smoking were in an area that the smell comes in the restaurant.

DO NOT EVEN BOTHER TO STOP LET ALONE GO IN AND EAT WHEN A COUPLE OF METRES FURTHER DOWN YOU CAN HAVE VERY GOOD FOOD AND VALUE FOR MONEY,
I TRIED IT BUT DEFINITELY WONT BE ANOTHER TIME.
