“Large and comfortable suites - close to the action”
Reviewed April 17, 2013

We stayed here last week for one week. As others have said the suites are very spacious - large room with dining/area and lounge/TV area. There is a full-sized kettle, toaster and microwave and all the cutlery and crockery you need. Everything is there to make to snacks but you wouldn't be able to make meals as there is no stove and washing up facilities are limited - bathroom sink.

Two large couches - could sleep another two people - and a large TV.

And then there is the bedroom - comfortable beds and adequate storage - and a bathroom with full bath and powerful shower.

The cleaners did a great job - beds made and towels changed every day and the bed linen was changed midweek. We were in when they came one day and they mopped the floor.

If I was to nitpick about the room, I would complain about the following: balcony is narrow - no room to sit out, nothing to dry your swimsuits on should you choose to use the pool and the TV only has about 4 channels and only one of them is in English - BBC World. A waste for such a big new TV.

Wifi was free and worked very well all week - very important to us.

We were B and B - breakfast was tasty and plentiful. Only issue was the "juice" from the dispenser - pretty horrible.

All staff were friendly, polite and efficient.

The location is ideal - only about twenty yards from Sliema waterfront.

We had a great time and wouldn't hesitate to go back.

This is an excellent place to stay. Sparkling clean, expertly managed with spacious chic rooms it retains an identity and so is rescued from being an anonymous place which could be anywhere in the world by its genuine and welcoming staff. Not only did they make us very welcome, they even went out of their way to try to get tickets for the Italy vMalta match and sort our technical ICT problems out. All done with charm and grace. We enjoyed the late afternoon sun and harbour views from suite 151.the location is especially good. Top tip go to Mdina on the bus. Then walk to St. Paul's catacombs. These are very interesting. But then do go the newly opened cafe in the museum. It has a walled garden with an ancient lemon grove, arum lilies and grape vine. Try their Maltese platter. It tastes wonderful and unlike other food we had tastes and is home made. We lingered under a bright blue sky, quaffed ice cold local white wine and watched butterflies play and heard a lark sing. All to rare an experience in busy compact Malta. Also we loved the temples at )
Hjara? (Excuse spelling) as you can walk through the wild flowers on the cliff top. Good winter break. Ps we even saw swallows heading north on their way to Uk.

This hotel was right next to a foreign language school and the children/teenagers that attended this school used the restaurant facilities in the hotel and this could be really noisy. We arrived about an hour before check in time and were informed that our room was being cleaned and were asked to wait in the bar. We went back to the reception after an hour and were told that it would be another hour until our room was ready as they had only just started to clean it. The suite itself was very nice and the towels etc were replaced everyday, but our balcony was just a solid wall which you could not see over and the only view we had was of the buildings behind the hotel, one of which was still being built. There were no chairs provided to enable you to sit and relax on the balcony if you wanted to. We were on the first floor above the restaurant and this was really noisy from about 5.30 am onwards with what sounded like tables and chairs being moved around so trying to sleep after this time was not very easy. The staff in the restaurant were very friendly though. Good location though for getting around. If the hotel had better soundproofing it would be better.

Room Tip: You need to be on the top two floors facing the harbour to get a decent view otherwise you will be l...

Excellent location, good value. Rooms were quite large, even by US standards. Nice to have a suite of two rooms. Very unusual for the price. Includes standard size fridge, microwave, coffee/tea pot, wine glasses, plates and silverware. One minute walk to buses and ferries. Also close to good restaurants on the waterfront. Natalie at the front desk is great. Her goal seems to be helping her customers. She is just a delight.
Breakfast at the hotel is fine for a few days. There are plenty of options on the waterfront right around the corner. Olive is good for breakfast and Portopalo is wonderful for dinner!

Great staff and amazing location.
The rooms are of a high standard and very big.
The sad thing is that all the investment is being wasted as the cleaning of the rooms has got to be seen to be believed. The cleaner changes towels and bed linen and runs a mop over the floor. The owners really do need to reply to all the messages on here regarding this.
The back rooms have limited views but atleast they get the sun all day.
Two mins walk away is the Tigne Point shopping mall.
The ferry to Valletta is a 5 min walk and takes just 5 mins to get there. €10 for a weekly pass.
Food: Breakfast selection is poor for a 4 star hotel. The same things everyday with a poor selection of fresh fruit. The automated hot drinks machine delivers frothy, tasteless coffee. The cups are tiny so I invested in a larger one and my own Earl Grey tea. We were on half board so had a meal in restaurant every evening. The lady who serves and the young chef are amazing. Alternative nights you get an older gentleman who is very miserable and a Chef who (as others have said) spends more time on his mobile. The plus is that your selection from the menu is cooked fresh. The downside is that you get a choice of two starters and main. Some nights the main was pizza for both choices, just a different topping.
Saying all that it is a lovely restaurant and the quality is very good.
As a professional travel I have stayed in some of the top hotels of the world. I very rarely give less than a 5 because the standards are always high. This was a group holiday chosen for out of season sun with my family. The review is a group review and some member's have already decided to return later in the year as the location and most of the staff are fabulous.

Location - situated behind the main street on Sliema front, therefore great place to get to all main areas, bars, cafes and bus stops etc.

Hotel - this hotel is very modern and only recently renovated and therefore clean with all new features,. Nice open reception with eatery to th right, staff very friendly and helpful.

Breakfast - good variety, breads, cereals, fruit, hams and cheeses, however this was let down slightly by the quality of the following - the juices are from a machine that gives a rather 'frothy' top, after trying them all the apple flavour is the one that was most palatable
The sausages are very poor quality and I felt rather bad picky looking through those that were more cooked and brown looking,
The eggs.............very strange taste, they had a slight fishy taste to them, both the scrambled and hard boiled.

This hotel is great, but with the improvement of the quality of the breakfast this hotel would be awesome.
Would I return to the Hotel Rocco......definitely.

we stayed here between feb 21st and feb 26th our main reason being one of our group was running in the marathon.
the rooms and hotel overall were spotlessly clean and ALL the staff we encountered were first rate. the best the guy with glasses who worked in the main restaurant (sorry i didnt catch his name but he is a credit to the hotel and malta}
the rooms were massive with a full size fridge in the room, heating and air con units in the bedroom and living room. big bathroom and clean hallway and lifts.
we had adjoining rooms and we were in and out of each others rooms which was great and the walls were thick, so no noises.
we ate in the hotel on our first evening and all the dishes were good and reasonably priced.
the price we paid for 5 nights was a ridiculous £66 in TOTAL for our room of 3 people. unbelievable value for a truely great place to stay.
we were greated by the manageress in our rooms and we also met her later in the lobby area and she again asked how our stay was.. even though she was busy i asked her about the use of an iron and she said she would sort it for us for our return and true to her word it was waiting in the room when we got back. thats what i like, when someone says they will do something, they do it.. credit to her. in other hotels we have all had it when you keep having to request things over and over again. not at the Rocca.
if this hotel keeps up these standards it will soon become the best in its class in sliema.
cheers from us all. paul, dawn and poppy in suite 223 and nat and dave in suite 222.
