Description: Casa Cosmana Navarra is a traditional Maltese. Is a 17th-century townhouse in the suburb of Mdina, building belonged to Cosmana Navarra (1600-1687), who was the main benefactress of the rebuilding of the Rabat parish church of St. Paul. The house is found in front of the parish church opposite the The Wignacourt Museum. It has a vernacular facade, that includes a closed timber balcony and two neoclassic columns. In the inside it features some baroque architecture including the coat-of-arms of the family, the decorative archways from a room to the other, the former courtyard and upstairs they are several spacious rooms inside.

Friends took us to this little gem in Rabat last Saturday night and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of getting away from the crowds in the Maltese coastal towns and settling for a quiter affair in Rabat. The menu (€ 25) is very good value, cnsidering you can choose whatever you want from the a la carte. All four of us enjoyed a variety of starters and my giant tortellini came in as everybody's favourite. We all decided on Fillet of Beef for main course, and I am happy to say every piece of meat came in cooked to everyone's taste (2x well done, 1x medium and 1x rare/ medium) and in considerable size. Throughout the evening, the service was friendly and attentive without becoming overbearing. The place itself has some excellent features (the ceiling and areas not painted or covered in wallpaper), but the colour chosen for the in my opinion unnecessay wallpaper is questionable to say the least. Would we come back? Definitely!!

Yesterday evening my family and I had a table booked at 'Cosmana Navarra' in Rabat, Malta. On our arrival we were taken upstairs and escorted to a table. Both tables we sat at wobbled terribly and we had to ask to get them fixed. We were given a folded tissue and asked to do it ourselves.

We were four persons and we all ordered a starter, a main and a dessert. For starters we had octopus in garlic, pasta with rabbit sauce and pasta with walnut pesto. Those were delicious and we were all enjoying our meal. Our mains arrived, two rib eye steaks, one fillet of beef and one Sea Bream. We all dug in, only to have to stop in disgust to realise that the Sea Bream had not been cleaned internally but cooked with all the guts still there intact. Dinner had to stop, and even though the waitress kept telling us that the chef excused himself, the disgust of it all ruined our meal. We were given a replacement of half a serving of Sea Bream now filleted, which nobody really felt like eating by then.

To try and lighten up the atmosphere, we decided to just order dessert and try to lift the spirits back up. For desserts we have apple ravioli with ice-cream, banoffee pie, 3 scoops of ice-cream and 'ímqaret''with a serving of ice-cream. Dessert was good and it helped us ease out to the situation. In the end, we were asked whether we wanted coffee, when we said yes we were told it was on the house, something which we are accustomed to and something which lots of restaurants do nowadays.

When we asked for the bill, we assumed we were going to be told not to pay for the fish main to apologise for the whole mishap. Also because we had remained calm and tried not alert other patrons. However when we pointed this out, I was personally called a 'pastaza' by the restaurant's so-called manager. He said we were lucky enough to get a coffee.

I was very disappointed by this, and not because we still paid the full price but for the bad treatment we received in the end. I will never return to this restaurant anymore, and I will never feel comfortable to recommend it to anyone, because I do not believe clients should be treated in this way. If one does not agree with a client, at the very least one should explain very calmly instead of calling names. Shame on their so-called manager, he is definitely not making a good name for his place!

Friendly and helpful staff, generous portions, tasty food and above all good value for money. Together with a warm and welcoming ambience, it is definitely the number one restaurant in the area.
